Trim keeps setting itself to randomly nose up or down.

It made me crash multiple times before I noticed what was going on, trim slowly sets itself to 100% nose up/down it seems random.

How can I prevent this?

What plane are you in? It shouldn’t ever adjust itself that much. It will need to be adjusted periodically, but it shouldn’t just completely mess with you like that, unless there’s something with the AP going on.

Autopilot actually fixes the issue as it seems to keep the trim how it likes it.

As soon as autopilot is off the trim will start to set itself down or up.

The trim will need to keep being adjusted until you find the “sweet spot” to where you can just let it go, and the plane will still maybe ever so slowly drift up and down. You also might need to adjust your throttle down to get to that point. It’s hard to completely trim an aircraft to the point where it needs no adjustments ever.
