Microsoft Flight Simulator

Microsoft Flight Simulator

Statistiche:
More ram
Hey.

I got Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 through gamepass on PC (Microsoft Store), but I'm planning on buying it on Steam later this week.

Anyways, my PC-setup is i7 9700k, RTX 2070, and 16 GB ram.

So my question is, I struggle with stuttering and low FPS, especially over the United States, and that happens no matter what I set the settings too, so will I benefit from getting more ram? I'm considering buying 64 GB ram.

This might be a stupid question though. :p

Even on FL390 in USA, my FPS struggles and fluctuates between 17 fps and 25 fps, but standing on the ground I get around 35 fps. Btw, I also have it installed on an SSD-drive.

Thank you for all your answers. I did buy new ram today, but I still got an issue.

I've seen people writing that when you add more ram, MFSF starts using like 20 GB of it, but even though I now how 64 GB of ram, the simulator still only uses around 12 GB of ram (the system in total uses 18 GB).

Is there a way to "force" the simulator to use more ram?

Nope.
It uses the ram it needs.

So fly over NYC if you want to use say 22gb of ram. Go elsewhere and it may use less.

There is no point in forcing useless data into your ram.
The sim will use the amount of ram it needs, 64 is overkill all you needed was 32 for MFS.

I've tested the Dreamliner over NYC, and it only uses around 11 - 12 GB in that area, even though the Dreamliner is a complex airplane with alot of instruments working at the same time. The sim has never gone above 13GB of ram at max.

As mentioned before, I do alot of video editing aswell, so the bigger amount of ram is anyways worth it, even though MFSF won't use all that ram.
i run the game on a very old work station that has 96GB of ram and it runs this game on high-end settings on 4K monitor with out any problems and will even do ultra although i do notice slight stutters on ultra, maybe there is something in having the extra ram over the 32gb recommended, especially for the older machines?

64gb is overkill, and does your motherboard even support it?
I am running MSFS with 8gb ram (yes there's a little stuttering at times, but it's no worse than FSX was). 😁

I believe ya. My experience is different I guess.

I haven't used that one planet, I was in a Citation, but I know around NYC i hit 22GB and i even posted a screenshot.

This was when it was just under 20, but it hit 22+ not long after.

If you are not buying a complete ram kit but just adding more, make sure to get the same ram with the same timing to avoid problems.

I was unable to find matching RAM and as a results MFS crashed on me for days and was unplayable. Turned out I had to lower my CPU OC and it now runs fine. I'm sure if I wanted to mess with it I could get it RAM configured and re up my OC but it's working great now and I only had to knock down my OC by 100mhz so no biggy. But yes it may cause problems but nothing that isn't fixable if you have the know how and time.

As for RAM usage I have not seen mine go much over 18 gb but I haven't watched it that closely either I've been to busy watching the scenery but I also get lots of stuttering and low FPS so not sure its helping much either.

Must be ur settings or rez...

I play on a mix of high/ultra with a couple mediums at 4k.

Normal lowball usage for me is 10 to 13. The exe sucks down 9 sitting at the menu. In a large city with photogrametry data cached I have seen consistent 15-17 gb on the exe alone with total system loading ocasionally as high a 28 to 29gb of my 32gb avail.
I have an i7-8700 with a 2060 and 32GB RAM and it runs smooth with a few things turned up above Nvidia's optimal settings. You'll definitely be happy you got that extra RAM
I went from 16 to 32. My FPS never really went up. AlwYs been around 46-60 FPS just matters where I am.

Where I got improvement was when at same time I upgraded from my old SATA HDD to a new 1 tb Western Digital Black SSD drive.

My load times cut in half maybe more. Use take me 4+ min from clicking start to the main menu now it’s about 1 min 40 seconds.

Same when loading flight.

Which also helps in game loading scenery faster, which is a major cause of stutter.

Sorry for late answer. Yes, my motherboard supports it.
