Will this game work offline?
Hello, I've built a computer for a friend without Wi-Fi that would like to play this game, I purchased a version from the Microsoft store & when testing without Wi-fi I get a message saying to insert the disk.

I understand the game will play online but the authentication won't work unless you're online. Is this the same case on steam or should steam work fine?

If steam will work fine I can purchase it on here which will save having to mess about with 4g routers or anything.

Please could someone know if it's possible to run this game fully offline after doing the full updates etc.

It would be the same.

Yes, it can be run offline but be aware that it will not look too good. Most of the graphics are streamed so all your building will look like adobe huts lacking any textures and color.

Yeah I'm not too worried about the way the game looks, it's more just the issue of actually booting the game.

So it still won't load at all without a Wi-fi connection?

Your friend will in any case have to log in with their Microsoft account once, no matter if the game was bought on Steam or MS Store. For that the game has to have an active internet connection, of course. After that first time they can play offline. But that first link-up is unavoidable. And I'd also highly recommend downloading the world updates from the marketplace after first login. They add quite a lot in my opinion.

Btw. pls don't use having an internet connection and having WiFi synonymously. They're not the same.

You say the first link up is unavoidable, does this mean a 1 time thing or each time you load? I'm setting it up somewhere I do have an internet connection but then will be moved away.

It's a 1 time authentication thing.

EDIT: I'm speaking to the Steam version. It will need to be run online once everytime you decide to do an update. As mentioned by @Narf, you should download all the world updates as they will at least add some good looking Points of Interest. They are stored locally.

EDIT2: Personally, if I had to play without internet, I would go with X-Plane. The graphics would be considerably better since it's all stored locally. This game was built as a streaming game.

I wouldn't recommend MSFS as an offline game, either. You can do it, but sooner or later you'll have to reconnect with the mothership. The longer you put off the connection, the more maintenance you will have to do in one sitting.
