So 10 years of support was just a lie?

JORG NEUMANN - "We're in this for the long run" is what he wished to say. Will there be 10 Years for MSFS2020 or did he mean ASOBO's "Legendary Franchise" DEAL. I think that says it all huh.

They have not said that they are ending support for MSFS 2020. For all you know support won't end until 2050. And it sounds like if you do decide to upgrade to 2024 you will be able to use any add ons that you already own.

Of course not. In all likelihood, there will be a MSFS 2028 as well, extending the planned commitment well beyond 10yrs of flight sim.

The commitment was to the flight sim in general so addon makers would commit to making content. The question is what future features will you not get if you don't upgrade to the paid version.
I honestly could not enjoy flying FSX IMPORTS again in 2020 as I did on Release which greatly expanded the range at that time but can not compete with the better Stock Planes now. Just look at how limited the Grumman Goose still is and yet is same for their Latest Local Legend efforts like the FLYING BOAT. They wasted tons of DEV work on all that and left SALTY to do all the work on their 747 & HEAVY for the 787.

I do expect far greater Aircraft for 2024 by then.

This is misinformation. They clearly said 'THIS' simulation as in the current title. Just b/c they dorked it up and now can't fix it or move on or underestimated the cost of the server streaming doesn't mean we heard them wrong. Go play the video. They said THIS meaning the sim that was about to be released. Gas lighting us now about it is just a bad look. Let's not play word games. We are all adults. We know what we heard.

The issue that's concerning me, is what happens when they eventually cut the servers to this version? Every version before could run without needing to download the world as a constant stream. Its apparent now how little conviction they have for this version, and I certainly can't afford the absurd amount of hard drive space needed to download the entire world map.
You can just use your purchased stuff in MSFS 2024, and also get the new content.
Where is the issue in getting more gameplay, compared to MSFS 2020?

Maybe the issue is with buying the same game again while they said you'd have 10 years support and end up with less than 4?

Hm yeah, that is true. Let's see how long they bring new stuff to the 2020 version.
If the "career modes" are done well, I see them as a full-price DLC addon in 2024, but I now understand the frustration!
If they do not change some fundamental underlying tech, they should stick with 2020 and add the new stuff as optional purchases.
10 years support to not ditch the FS genre, not 10 years on the same game. unfortunately it costs a lot of money to develop something like this so reselling it with improvements and new features like career/missions is the only way to recoup costs. everythings expensive even for corps.

No, it wasn't. They never explicitly stated that they would exclusively focus on FS2020 for the next ten years.
That's merely a misinterpretation made by some uninformed individuals based on the FS2024 announcement.

It costs them money when:
-Manual Cache is broken and the same data has to be streamed over and over
-Marketplace is broken and people stop purchasing
-When users don't know how to fix a repeat CTD and reinstall the program for the 4th time.

So to get a few extra features other than the graphics, I have to pay another $90 for the super deluxe pro premium max version?

For all we know, 10 years of support can just mean that you will be able to use the servers for 10 years. This game without servers is basically no game anymore.

It's not the only way. They have a marketplace for a reason. As someone else pointed out, it would be great if it would actually work. Not just for the customer but also for Microsoft/Asobo.

Personally, I would have also been fine with a different revenue model. They could have had annual passes for the world updates or sold them individually for a modest fee (like €9.99 per world update). If delivering the things they gave us for free was not profitable then change the delivery method. Simple. There would have been many options.

And if the marketplace does not cover the expenses now then why should it when we have a new 2024 version?

Besides, does anyone have any hard evidence that MSFS is/was a non-profitable service for Microsoft and if so to what extent?
Microsoft have made a net profit (yes, NET PROFIT) of US$72 billion last year. I'm sure they could easily keep MSFS running for ages, e.g. as a test bed for their cloud services.

Anyway, I'm pretty sure the REAL reason why they are doing this 2024 version is because they want a new SKU on the GamePass.
The next year is going to be Microsoft finally taking the hammer to Sony. They will have Starfield as a super-juicy exclusive and many, many attractive additions to GamePass are on the horizon. A shiny new version of Flight Simulator is supposed to help attract new meat to their subscription model. Simple as that.
