Microsoft Flight Simulator (2020)

Statistiche:
MSFS 2020 and the "mandatory updates"
They need to dispose of these "mandatory" updates. I shouldn't have to wait for a hour+ just to play the game. Especially for something I most likely never will use. I am seriously considering going back to FSX just for the convenience it had. And for the record. I have no issues having games being updated. But this hour+ BS every time has gotten old. To the point I lost interest in playing when finally it's done.

There are a few reasons why this wouldn't realistically be possible.

They can always make the downloads smaller. I am totally cool with waiting a short amount of time. But a hour+ is not a short amount of time. On top of it. I always wonder if Microsoft is going to butt it's nose this time.

How long is it taking exactly? I've had MSFS since it's release and updates don't take over an hour. Typically updates tend to drop around lunch time for me. What I've done before is start the update go make something for lunch come back and it's almost done. They tend to be fairly quick.
I don't understand why it can't update using Steam, instead of making you wait for it in game.

Valve is worth maybe around 1.6 billion. Microsoft is worth 1.7 trillion.

You tell me based on those numbers who gets to set the rules.
Sim update 9 came out in April. Sim Update 10 came out in Sept. It's not like these big updates are every week.
Everyone must be on the same version. There is no way to support multiple versions at once without causing massive issues. This is why they force updates for everyone.
An hour? I'd give my left (you know what) to only have to wait an hr. Idk how many hrs I've wasted trying to update. The 1st time it took 5hrs to get to 60% then wifi quit, when I finally got it back it went back to 0% & started over . Since then it now goes to 1% & begins to decompress a 747 file & never completes it. I let it go for 9 hrs yesterday & it was still @ 1% & still decompressing.

There's your problem.... wifi. The speed and reliability will never match connection to your router by cable. Somehow, you've gotta move over to a wired connection. In the past I've made my own Cat5 cable to length, between rooms. It isn't expensive, you learn a skill and the benefit is immediate.

Just based on the tone of your overall post, you should just go back to FSX.

I think this weeks update took less than half an hour (via wifi) for me including all of the associated content...it's not that big a deal for some of us.
And with an update every two or three months you must not play much if you're seeing "this hour+ BS every time" :lunar2019smilingpig:

The prosecution concurs with our learned colleague
For a game of this scale, 110gb isn't really that much. I wish people would stop complaining about the size of the game.
The slow patching is just something we have to deal with with this product. I know I had to give the sim a break many times because patches would prevent me from getting into the sim. And it's a vicious cycle when you fall behind on updates.

I'm sure some people will trivialize the patching, but for some of us it does become a deterrent.

That is unrelated to this discussion though. The worth of the companies is not related to the way Valve permits products on the store. MS is not the only company that has games that do not use steam as the repository for the bulk of the client data.

People just have to accept there is more than one way to distribute products. And it's not because MS is throwing it's weight behind this or doing something exceptional.
