Is this game ever on sale?
It's not a new game anymore, and there is no demo. And I don't want to fork out €60 on a game I may not like (haven't even tried this genre before).

So, is it ever on sale? And if so, what's usually the price tage during sales? Btw, I'm interested in the GOTY game, could't care less about the other versions.

Plenty of sites around where you can check on the history of a game's costs. I personally use isthereanydeal.com. Lowest price this game has been so far was 20% off.

And GOTY isn't really a version of the game, every single edition out there is a GOTY since that came out last year the older versions got the upgrade for free. There's Standard, Deluxe and Premium Deluxe.

I seen it once or twice but not much off.

It actually is still pretty new and much more is coming to MSFS. Unlike many mainstream games a new flight sim isn't coming out every year give or take.

With the Game Pass from Microsoft, you can pay $1 for a one-month subscription and trial the game that way. Spring Sale for STEAM should be soon, it might go on sale then. Who knows, though. Microsoft is big enough to do whatever they like.

Only 20%? It's a pass, then.

Btw, the cheapest version is called "standard GOTY", so they use both terms.

Good tip, but I'm not getting that price. For me, it's 99 Norwegian Crowns (around $10.5), no mention of a trial. And though it has very few reviews on Microsoft Store, it's only at 3.3 of 5.

I just read a few comments about it being a bad game unless you have a joystick and pedals, so I'm not going to bother since I don't have any of that. Thanks for the info, though :)

It's over 2 years old, and that's not considered new in the gaming business.

From what I can see, only a few airports and planes have been added in 2 years. And that's doubling the price for those who want everything. I have no idea what more is coming in the future, but half a dozen planes and airports per edition isn't "much more" in my book.

A) Without good controllers the game is difficult to play, so you're right there.

B) However, there are hundreds of third-party add-ons, most of are high quality and some are a lot better than what the game provides. You really don't need more than the base game (for anyone else who is reading this who might want to know), as the extras provided by Microsoft are very niche.

Every month is an update, either a bug fix or a content update. The content updates generally include quite a bit of scenery and airports without added cost. The bug fix updates are engineered to make you think deeply about your choices in life. Either way, we do get a fair amount of new content every few weeks.

You must be ahead of time of the rest of us then, because for us the 2nd birthday of this game is only coming around in mid-august. Teach me your wisdom, oh great time-traveller!
And yeah, as far as simulator go, that's still new. Serious simulators aren't FIFA or Battlefield where the studios crap out a game a year and start putting the most recent game on a 50% sale after five weeks.

Nobody is recommending to get the bigger editions. The stuff they include aren't worth the extra money. Better to take the standard edition and invest in some 3rd party add-ons. What Maki is talking about are the massive upgrades in both visuals and flightsim-related stuff like physics and weather simulation that this receives and continue to receive in the long term.
Additional aircraft, airports and other stuff come via 3rd party software, both paid and free, and there hundreds and thousands of those already out.

As I said, every single edition is a GOTY. Obviously that includes the standard one. The Deluxe and Premium Deluxe are GOTY, too.

Overall you give the impression that you're entirely new to higher-tier simulators. Business works quite a bit different than for other genres here. Most of your assumptions don't work, rethink your approach or just let it be.

You're replying to someone who has been in the hobby for a bit over 20 years, I know what I am talking about and please do read what Narf and Twelvefield have said. I don't have much to add other than yes it's very apparent you've never looked into this hobby.

In your OP you complained of €60 ($63.16 usd) and later you said you could get it for 99NOK ($10.17 usd). That's quite a range and if 10 bucks is too much you probably shouldn't be buying games at all.

My wisdom comes from the store page:

Release date: 18 April, 2020.

Complicated stuff. Not understandable to everyone.

MSFS was released August 18, 2020.

That is still pretty new when it comes to flight sims. MSFS still has quite a lot of life left. A lot of base content, improvements and third-party addons are to come. Again, this isn't one of those titles that are sold for $60 and not long after the iteration comes out.
