I'm sure my GPU will be obsolete long before it burns out... (assuming it doesn't outlast me)
Yeah, it wasn't meant to come across like that, it's just that I was sure it wasn't firing up my fans so much a month ago.
It's calmed down after a restart, so I'm not sure what that was about. (Possibly I had a couple of other things in the background that were causing the final bit of load).
It's using most of the GPU and running at 77+ deg now. :)
There are times when running the GPU at 100% is just stupid.
I'd argue that even with CPUs, it's fine to utilize them fully if that utilization is used to improve the game and doesn't impact framerate.
Other examples are Doom, or PGA 2021. On the menu screens, the GPU often runs at almost 100% when it should only be using a small amount of power. Not only is it
an unnecessary drain on a GPU, it is also a waste of electricity. (Of course, if you don't pay the bills in your house, that second point won't matter to you ;) ).
The exact same issue was (possibly still is) happening when MSFS updates - it runs the GPU at maximum when there is only a single image displayed on the monitor, costing several Kw of electric & running the GPU at maximum for several hours.
So that is why I asked the question about the in game consumption - mine does not usually run so hot, so it a reasonable thing to wonder if it is a similar fault in the programming code.
As others have (more sensibly) said, it is fine if it is using full GPU capability because it is necessary, but not when it is a bug.
That is not an image. Its entire 3d scene of hangar with plane model and camera moving in it. It is not a prerendered movie, as it is dynamicly showing the plane you have last flown with the propper livery. Which can be any 3rd party aircraft too.
Only when the game loads you see a splash screen during the loading process, but behind that splashscreen is actually a 3d hangar scene being rendered. Thats why menue is demanding on GPU.
If your GPU running that hot worries you, it might be time to clean out your PC with an air compressor or take a look at your fans and make sure everything is spinning properly (including case fans). Make sure none of the fans have been installed the wrong direction all this time too. You can light incense and make sure inflow is sucking in air, and outflow is blowing out air. Probably a good idea to suck air in through the front (and sides) and blow it out the top. Also don't put your PC on the ground or underneath the desk with poor air circulation and better methods of sucking up dust from the floor. I mean these things add up to overheating.
Granted RTX cards typically do run hotter, but you can still get it down to 70-75c under max load if you've got proper circulation going.
