VR Optimization
I read through some of the Steam reviews on the Steam store for this game and noticed several complaints about the optimization of the VR mode. Granted, the complainers were people who were using VR headsets that are exceptionally demanding for GPUs because of their extremely high resolution (the HP Reverb G2).

What kind of settings could I expect to run this game on smoothly with a headset with lower resolution such as the Valve Index if I'm using an EVGA RTX 3070 and an AMD Ryzen 5600X CPU? I have 32 GB RAM.

Expect the best
My settings 2080Ti 11 Gb Vram 32 Gb 3600Ghz ram on a vive Pro i9 9900k xmp'd
Graphics settings do not seem to have a great effect on fps so....this for a medium to high end rig Control panel settings are important. all in game settings for me are on ultra in VR HTC VIVE PRO. smooth as silk. This is by far the best game / sim to experience in a VR headset for me.... BY FAR! ..inc HLA It's beautiful

OMG, Thank you so much!!!!
I could never imagine that monitor SS could be a factor in vr. I had that setting at minimun to save resources. Now its at 200% and it works with my reverb and 1070, believe it or not.
I have many settings at minimum, thougth.

also that tweak works better with the reverb than other headsets

This trick is placebo, hugely negligible and entirely subjective. There's hardly any FPS increase (3fps difference is a joke) and imo, saw no difference on my Rift S in clarity in any aircraft. Pixel Density is already pretty low on most headsets, what purpose would increasing it serve, especially when you're only changing pancake settings and not VR settings.

This is Snake Oil.

Umm... no, it's not Snake Oil. Although results may vary for some, I tried it myself last night and the change in VR performance was hugely SIGNIFICANT. Previously, the stuttering in VR was UNplayble by any measure, no matter what graphics settings I tried, it was simply not a viable way to play. I even resorted to using OpenXR dev tools to force motion smoothing tricks, but nothing worked, and my specs are not exactly low-end either. (i7-10700K, RTX 2080, 32GB RAM, Odyssey+)

But, changing the 2D scaling to 200% and then switching to VR mode not only made it PLAYABLE in VR, but it's like a whole new sim. I'm now seeing almost NO stuttering at all, or so little that I have to pay attention to even notice it. An exception would be flying low over a dense urban area, but it's only really visible if you look directly out the side of the aircraft as objects are passing perpendicular to your view angle, which is common in a lot of VR games anyway. It's not perfect, but it is 100% better than before. Not only is the stuttering fixed, but I also don't see ANY shimmering textures or edges like I did before, so YES, this trick absolutely WORKED for me, and if you go to the official FS forums, you'll see I'm far from the only one.

It definitely made it clearer, but even on a 3080 I find the performance extremely lacking.
Ichinin Jun 26, 2021 @ 5:05am
I turn down the cloud detail and often fly in clear weather, does lots for FPS in VR.

With what VR headset? And what refresh rate?
