How to use the new Interaction system with a mouse
When you start up MSFS after update 5 you cant interact with surfaces in the cockpit with your mouse because it says you need to use an unassigned button (“?”) to do so.
Now don’t set the interaction system back to legacy right away, like everyone tells you to and like you have probably done already.
Just go to your mouse profile in controller settings and bind “Cockpit interaction – primary action” to your left mouse button. Stuff will work again like before and you can also benefit from the new system, like people with controllers do. If you don’t like it, you can still set the interaction back to legacy later. I have not done a complete flight like this but I wanted to share this info. You can assign more buttons to the new interaction system but I didnt and it seems to work fine with my setup (medium priced Joystick+Keyboard+mouse).

The problem I had with the new interaction system was that I could not make changes in the G1000. Also I didn't like the icons coming up when I put my mouse over something. Those are for the X Box which I don't care for anyway.

I didn't have any problems with the new interaction system, although I initially switched to legacy after reading negative comments. I then decided to give it a try and didn't find any issues with it. I disabled popups and now I have even more authentic experience, IMO

Look under Accessibility in the settings. In Miscellaneous there's an option called Instrument Description Tooltips.

Rookie, what keys did you bind to the new system? I had no Keys assigned to it and I have assigned only the left mouse button so far, as already mentioned.
When I started the sim after update 5 I was unable to interact with the cockpit by mouse. I went through about 5 to 10 sources (steam posts and youtube videos) and all of them showed this problem but only suggested to turn the interaction mode to legacy. So I looked further and found it in the controls options so I decided to open this thread.

I would be interested in how your settings differ from mine. If I enable the Lock mode then I am not able to move the cursor in the G1000 which makes it useless. It is for that reason that I had t change over to Legacy. So with your mouse are you able to move the cursor in the G1000's when the flight plan flyout is open?

You have to bind keys (or rather, mouse buttons) to the new interaction features. Or at the very least you have to do that if using a custom keyboard and mouse profile, not sure if it works out of the box if you never edited those and just run the defaults.

It's under the Misc catagory somewhere in the keybind menu. You'll likely want to bind atleast the ability to select things (IE click on them), and the abillity to increase and decrease your selection bound to your scroll wheel (otherwise some things won't work right).

I didn't change any binding from default mouse binding since game launch. Didn't touch it after SU5, worked out of the box for me. I will check what I have when I come back home soon.

I turned the new Lock system back on and the tooltips and figured out how it works. I didn't have to do any binding. I just switched it over to locked mode and turned on the tips etc and then actually read the tooltips to figure out how it works (something I should have done to begin with). After that I turned off the tooltips.

Yes, I can move cursor and it's even better now. There is one change in how pressing buttons work now - you need to press using right click while holding left button (highlights control in yellow). Keep holding left button and move the mouse, it will move PAN dial and thus cursor inside G1000

Well I did figure out how the new controls work and right now for me it's not better but different. I guess I just need to give it some time to get used to it. Glad I can go back to Legacy if I want but after playing with it for a while I am starting to adjust. I just wish there was documentation to go along with all of the changes.

I checked the default mouse profile for the keys it binds to the new interaction system. For me it was easier to delete my custom mouse profile and rebind the 2 custom keys I had set.
I think it is confirmed that updates just dont change custom profiles to not mess them up. Other then that, the new system works fine. For controller players it is a must have, for players with a mouse it is a matter of opinion.

I didn't have a customized mouse profile so I didn't have to change anything. For now I'm leaving the new interaction turned on and trying to adjust but frankly I like the legacy mode more. Perhaps in time I will adjust to the Locked mode.

I just discovered that the Locked mode does not work with the A320NX. I am not able to pull on the knobs on the autopilot. Any ideas what I may be doing wrong?

If it did what I expected it to do based on the description in the release notes, it would be a godsend, oversized popups aside. You would think "lock to control" would also do things like block other functionality but alas it does not.

The main example I'm thinking about here is blocking zoom from the scroll wheel while "locked" to a cockpit control.
