Still having to use netlimiter to install?
This game's been out for almost a year, I have a small hard drive but decent net, so I uninstall and reinstall games often. This game and its downloader are probably the worst since Games For Windows Live. Every time I've installed it, I've had a bunch of new issues. The main one being a download reset due to "too fast" internet. I have to use a third party software to lock my download rate to 6MB/s or it'll jumb back to the beginning after a few hundred MBs downloaded.

Most of the issues I've had are very well known thankfully and never too hard to resolve with the help of some forums but... if they're this frequent, how are they not being fixed?

Am I just really unlucky? Do the downloads work perfectly fine for yall or does this downloader seem as catastrophic to you as it does to me?

For me with a 500 up and down connection it's fine. I just started redownloading MSFS (I uninstalled it the other day) a few hours ago and it's almost done. When the sim update was released it too didn't take all that long (after that I uninstalled it for the time being and now reinstalling it).

Thing is it doesn't actually download anywhere near 6MB/s, it just cancels if it's not capped there. Really weird stuff. At least last time it finally worked once setting up a cap. Just ran into another problem, my NetLimiter trial expired and now I'd have to purchase it... to install a game.

So yeah now I'm looking for another download capper online. I've already spent all day trying to get this installed. Closing in on 100 hours "playtime", I have about 10 flight hours.

I'm getting mildly annoyed so I take to the forums to vent my frustrations...

I'm on 330mbps and I've never had a problem also.
My desktop is ethernet, my lappy is wifi and they both download this program without a problem....

I cannot download the game with my 50mbps. It just loops so I havent played it since the first update last year when it came out. My friend had no problem downloading it. I dont know what else to do so I just leave it uninstalled for now. Seems like Microsoft or Asobo dont care if people cannot play. I paid $120 and played for about 80 hours. First update glitched my files and wouldnt download. I uninstalled the stupid game. I havent played in a year.

I also have a 50 mbps Fiber download speed. Game downloaded fine without any problems at around 45-50 mbps all the way thru the download. I'm in Australia by the way.

Disable any network limiting features in the game. I think they are largely responsible for the problem. Reports have died down, but I still occasionally hear a complaint.

Yeah same issue every time I install. I can't explain it, but for me, setting MFS2020 at a 5MB/s download speed cap using NetLimiter or sth similar stopped it from looping for me every time it happened. Shoul give that a try.

Funnily enough that means a network limiting feature is the only way to get it started.
To be clear, we don't actually get into the game to adjust network features, all that's beyond the initial download. All we get is an "update available screen" and a prompt to choose an install location, after which it goes into the download and starts to loop.

I'm on 250 to 300 and it downloaded fine for me.

I don't like the process of download, decompress, install and would think that download all, decompress all and install all would be smoother but then I'm not on the Asobo dev team and there is likely a reason they cannot do it that way.

Steam downloads work the way I would expect. It downloads all of it to your PC, then decompresses and installs. I'm not sure why FS 2020 does not do this.

Sounds like my problem! We need to band together to find out how many are affected and to find out how to finally get around this problem!

See this document on some ideas: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1dVwyIua2-RTOPIN66u43_YqL_JVZr6F1KJEQPKfgQ5c/edit#heading=h.l84hgk90nlps

Well, I have the solution, this thread was more about how such a workaround shouldn't be necessary. Long story short, every time this occured for me, it was solved by using NetLimiter and capping the application's download rate. Can't tell you at which speed you want to cap it at, but start low and work your way up. For me it was somewhere between 5 and 6MB/s.

Doing that is annoying though, especially because after the free trial, NetLimiter becomes paid.

Netlimiter did not work for me. Nor did the alternatives. I have 500mb/s internet. I am still not sure what the problem could be.
wendyloop May 3, 2022 @ 6:12pm
I tried as low as 120kb/s several times. I even limited to a single thread. The solution does not work for me.

Apparently, the "work from home software" that people used when working at home, during covid, can cause big problems.

I'm sorry I don't know what it's called, just remembered reading about it in several threads.

Could this be causing a problem??
