Marketplace issues
Hi All,

Is anyone else finding that since World Update 6 the Marketplace is ripping us off? It takes the money from the Steam wallet and then tells us the transaction has failed.

Sometimes restarting the sim resolves it, sometimes it doesn't.

Make sure STEAM OVERLAY is ON only for transactions & snapshots else keep it off for best fps & especially VR.

I just submitted a ticked for a failed transaction for a purchase I tried to make yesterday. I asked them to look at this transaction failed issue as it happens EVERY time I make a purchase. I didn't have this issue when the sim first came out but over time it developed.

Yup. Happened to me yesterday! Ticket to Zendesk is now in the works.

So today I received the update to my ticket advising that the airport has been added to my content. They also advised that I am to do this to avoid this issue in the future:
"To prevent this issue from happening again, please do the following when purchasing content from the Marketplace:
• Close Microsoft Flight Simulator
• Add Funds to your Steam Wallet
• Launch Microsoft Flight Simulator
Go to the Marketplace, and purchase your content with the Wallet Balance."

I replied that their suggestion was unacceptable to me as I cannot add the exact amount of the purchase to my steam wallet and would therefore always have to add more money than was required with no way to transfer the money from the steam wallet back to my credit card.

So here is a question. Say I want to make a marketplace purchase. Could I start the transaction by selecting the "Buy" button instead of the "Buy and Download"? Then when the add funds to steam wallet popup comes up I could add the exact amount of the purchase to the steam wallet. Then close the simulator and close out the wallet popup. Go back and make sure that the exact amount is in the steam wallet. Then start the simulator and do the Buy again and authorize the transaction? Would that work? Has anyone tried that?

So I just tried my idea. Went into fs2020, selected the Peter O. Knight airport and selected Buy. Added the exact funds to my steam wallet and then closed out. Cancelled the transaction and exited FS2020. Checked my steam wallet and saw the exact amount for the purchase in the wallet. Started FS2020, selected the airport and Buy, authorized the transaction and guess what. Yep "Transaction Failed". What a piece of garbage.

I have a question. Does the transaction fail because it's for the exact amount of the purchase which is in the steam wallet? And if there is more money in the steam wallet than the purchase would the transaction go through? Either way this is a really bad system as you would have to spend more money and leave the excess in your steam wallet which doesn't get used as I would only use the steam wallet for FS2020 purchases. Guess I just need to give up on the crappy marketplace.

Leftover money in your Steam wallet is automatically applied to anything else you buy on Stream in the future. It's like putting money on a store gift card. It's good for anything in the Steam store, not just the MSFS marketplace. I have no problem with this system.

So say I have a few dollars in my steam wallet and want to purchase something that costs more than what is in the wallet. Does the purchase take the money out of my steam wallet and charge my credit card for the remaining amount?

Yes if there isn't enough for the purchase it, will ask for a second payment method for the difference.

OK, thank you for that information. It's still a screwy way to make purchases. I just wish it would work the way it's supposed to and let me purchase by adding the exact amount to the steam wallet, authorizing the payment and then have the transaction go through. It worked that way when the sim first came out but it doesn't now.
