Can you fly WWi and WWII planes?
Title kinda says it all, Can you fly things like a bi-plane, or a p-51 or a Zero? What about a Saber jet?

also i realize it is a sim, But how realistic? is it to the point that you could actually fly a real plane? I played old ones way back in the 80's and they weren't that. Still fun though.

any help would be great.. :)

There is a Pitts S2S (which is a biplane). Aeroplane Heaven (third-party dev) is making a Spitfire MK Ia.

The game is pretty limited as to what you get stock. If you wish to fly a MiG or F15 (3rd party is developing the F15 as we speak) etc. You'll have to pay more money from third party developers.

So far we have no gliders, rotorcraft, or supersonic aircraft. As far as realism it hasnt changed too much since FS9 except for the graphics and the amount of bugs, unfinished things in it so far. Dont even have seasons yet, but we do have snow, but the snow only stays on the ground when it's snowing (live weather) if it snows one day and you get 12" of snow and the next day there is no snow falling, the snow will have magically disappeared and everything will be green again.

My opinion is that if you have $60 to waste, then go for it, but if your money is tight and your expecting a finished product, I'd wait awhile.

You can try these two for free:

https://www.msfsaddons.org/aircraft/p51

https://www.msfsaddon.com/2020/08/flight-simulator-2020-fokker-d21-plane.html

Far from perfect, but both have cockpit interior and are fun to fly. P-51 is currently my favourite plane, but don't fly with max throttle for too long, it will kill the engine - keep throttle in green/yellow area.

For extra fun try the grand canyon racing course (also free) with the P-51:

https://flightsim.to/file/2703/grand-canyon-racing-course

For a jet, I've purchased the Aermacchi MB-339:

Also a fun plane, and fully working cockpit, here is a review:

don't expect any ww1/2 aircraft to be realistic or functional.

many are quick and dirty conversions and are hugely flawed.

tbh if its ww1/2 you want, look at il2 battle of stalingrad.

Msfs2020 is more "a work in progress" than a fully rounded sim at this time.

I would assume that A2A is going to bring their warbirds with Accu-sim to MSFS at some point. Despite being stripped of their teeth they're a joy to fly in P3D and very well simulated.

The sim is a blast at the moment and will only get better. You can set things up so it's easy to fly if you want (plenty of assists), or you can go more full on , though if you want study level aircraft they have not arrived yet (the sim is too new for them to be available yet, though the first one is due within the next month or so).

Unless you're one of the unlucky ones that has issues (no reason to thing you will be, but it's a slim chance I guess) I'm sure you'll find plenty of things to enjoy doing in the sim as it is. But, as others have said, if you want WW2 or WW1 aircraft then you'll need to wait a little while unless you are happy with FSX conversions, which really aren't that great but are flyable.

I just did a SkyPark job and, in hindsight, chose the wrong aircraft. I decided, as it was a short job, to just take the 172. And I decided to fly real weather for a bit of extra fun. Of course, I didn't do what you should do and check the conditions, and found icing down almost to ground level. I was able to stay under it but I was pretty close to the deck and, about halfway to the destination, I came across a huge windfarm and ended up weaving in and out of the wind generators trying to stay out of the icing and maintain some visibility. Complete disaster really but also a load of fun and pretty exciting. So, if you're up for stuff like this, then the sim is great right now and you can enjoy it while the Warbirds are still on their way. :-)

I agree, the little Aermacchi is huge fun! Only had it for a day but its agility and fast climb rate are a joy to fly. Chasing it through quickly changing elevations or hammering it through terrain flight is addictive.
It does have its issues though - as mentioned in the video you linked it gets rather squirrely on the ground during takeoff, and I also feel that the center of gravity is off, being too far in the rear - the way it reacts to the elevator feels quite off and too sluggish, while the roll rate seems fine. It certainly requires an unnatural amount of joystick movement to get any significant reaction out of its elevators.
Also, I wish it had a working HUD to avoid having to look down for instrument checks sometimes.

I certainly look forward to a bunch of interwar and WW2 aircraft making it into the game. I don't care that their weapons don't work, I'd still love to fly them around.

No just civilian modern planes.

Yes you could probably fly a real plane after so decent time flying with this computer sim but I wouldnt recommend trying without proper flying lessons.

For WWII planes, the IL-2 series are very good, and for WWI, the Rise Of Flight series, although the way the game is packaged leaves a lot to be desired.

In MSFS, you have two acrobatic planes, a Pitts Special and an Extra 330LT. The Pitts is a competition aircraft and performs well beyond what a WWI biplane could do. The Extra is maybe equivalent to a late-war WWII fighterplane. You also get some Cubs which have performance roughly equal to a late WWI bi-plane or an early WW-II monoplane, minus the instability built into fighters. All of them are fun to fly, but I recommend having a good set of controls.

If you want realistic WW2 planes and a Saber jet, get DCS.

Speaking of an F-86 I know Milviz is currently working on their 737-200 for MSFS. They also made an F-86 a while back, they may bring it to MSFS. You don't need to play a combat sim to enjoy these aircraft. Keep in mind that quite a number of ex-combat aircraft exist today that are flown around with no armament and things such as drop tanks to extend their range are bolted on (they can't be dropped). What I would give to get a ride in a P-51. I have the A2A P-51 for P3D and it's really, really fun flying around.

I'd give up my vertigo and hypertension to fly in a P-51. Or more accurately, I'd have to give up my vertigo and hypertension and be thirty years younger with successful eye surgery to fly in a P-51.

i dont know about that. I was flying around anchorage and there was lots of snow on the ground, roads, buildings, trees. And no snow weather happening.

Better yet, ages ago RoF was updated by Flying Circus Vol 1, which is quite an modernization of RoF, and when it goes on sale a silly bargain. Only a limited selection of the fighters from RoF are in FCV1, but if you like dog fighting and learning EM theory on a granular level it is a treat indeed. Flying Circus Vol 2, which will include a LOT more of the RoF aircraft, including bombers, is in a preorder phase.
