On the bright side, look at all the enjoyment this game has brought you from this forum alone. I think you are getting your money's worth.
Welcome to the Internet - nay the world - where different people have different opinions and personal tastes.
Many don't get the opportunity to fly in reality, flight sims give them that. I absolutely love the A2A Cessna 172 because it's super detailed and a whole lot cheaper to fly that than it is to keep renting and paying for avgas.
As for aircraft from like PMDG, most of us don't fly them but in flight sims we're able to. It's the same deal with DCS, most of us will never get to fly those aircraft in reality.
The majority of those who play flight sims have a passion for aviation.
EDIT: Broke up post.
I know it's coming to Xbox, you can see trailers for content on the Xbox YouTube channel.
You can be Generation Z or the Greatest Generation for all anyone cares.
That's a depressing outlook. I love gaming, it is my favorite hobby be it a simulation of real life or otherwise even if I have done whatever is in the game in real life.
A career mode isn't a bad idea and the pros and cons have already been discussed, but a career mode isn't the end all be all and will only be a gimmick to those who don't or have litte have interest in aviation simulation alone. Everything else will be the main determining factor, a first party career mode would only be competing feature against other on par simulators.
Nobody lost it, it is just a decision that may be folly for Microsoft/Asobo much like Flight was in the past. Or at the very least just something extra that MS can make money on, but most certainly an afterthought in comparison to PC.
An example of where a cross platform game is similar in this regard is the Fallout/Elder Scrolls series. The console versions cannot use the Script Extenders and are left with a miniscule choice of mods unlike their PC counterparts. Cross platform doesn't mean you have to make a versions at the same level of parity or allow the same options as there will always be limitations.
Is it nice to have some of those features? Sure.
Is it the reason why players play flight simulators? No
I don't play Call of Duty and say I would like this to be more like ARMA or Battlefield WW2 should be more like Post Scripum. They are completely different and appeal to a different crowd. This isn't War Thunder nor is it even IL-2 (Which also has an instant action option, but that still isn't an attracting feature for those not interested in flying). The aspects you want to see in it are neat, but small gimmicks which overall do not benefit MSFS as a sim nor are they a real attracting feature for potential new players.
