Change metric system?
Is there a way to change from NM to miles? Places in MSFS world would inform us distance in NM.

Thanks!

Personally I use the HYBRID Setting as AIRBUS EFB only uses KG and ATC use FEET for ALT and just NM for DISTANCES so that seems to be the absolute best for a Global System. American System is just because they want their own but that simply does not work in this World Globally.

Its best to learn nautical miles. 100 knots means 100 nautical miles in one hour. Nautical miles is approx 1.15 miles or 1.85 km. Nautical miles and knots comes from naval vessels and aviation uses the same unit.

I keep changing it to "metric" but I still get shown altitude and speed in feet (I guess that's feet?) and knots... or nautical miles... I can barely make sense of it. How to change it to metric? The button does f*** all.

That setting doesn't change the modeling of the planes. It just changes the game screens. If you want a plane that has "metric" gauges then you need to find one that has them IRL or has been modded that way.

Also you should know that nautical miles (knots) is a standard navigation term and has nothing to do with the SI or imperial units systems. And feet is still the standard altitude measurement in much of the world.

Oh I see. But surely because this is a game... it can just "translate" the units automatically? All it needs is a formula in the code. So instead of knots I can see how many KM per hour I am flying. I'm not saying that will be accurate or realistic, but will give me a much better understanding of my speed, altitude etc... I'm not aware anyone in Europe using feet as measuring altitude btw?

Me too, except the Assistant option shows distance in KM - FMS PROG shows in NM. Is there a way for Assistant to show in NM but KM for Weight and Balance?

Well that sucks.

1 Mach being 666,7 Knots instead of 343m/s kinda sucks. -_-

Woohoo look at me flying at... 2000 KNOTS! Lmao. Terrible. -_-

It really isn't that difficult. If you are that adverse to learning something new, then this might not be the thing for you. Maybe when you get a little older, you will appreciate that the world isn't centered around what you think, then you can try it again.

Metric system is "km".... NM is the nautical system, which is the standard maritime and aviation system.

So.... no, it's not possible to translate the measurements, as it would be a complicated process (the airplane units are coded "deeply" into the plane's config)
Btw, yeah, europe uses feet. In fact, the whole world uses feet in aviation.

I mean.... it's the world, you have to get used to stuff as it is.

Yes, yes... Thank you both. I will have to learn the actual airflight units and I am looking forward to actually... Apologies for venting before I just had to, lol. xD

From what I gather so far is that knots is basically almost 2X than km/h, or rather 1.8X (180%+) so if a plane flies at 1000 knots, it's going around 1800 km/h. Is this correct? Just attempting to get a better grasp... I multiply the knots by roughly 2X, or 1.8X to get the km/h?

As for altitude... Because it's in feet, I roughly divide it by 3, in order to arrive at the altitude in meters? So if I'm flying at an altitude of around 10,000 ft, I am around 3 km above sea level, is that correct?

Thank you all.

Soooo.... I feel like it would be just so much easier (how I learned it), if you just forgot about conversions and kilometers. If you just fly and follow your route and atc, you'll slowly start getting used to the units without needing to convert them. For example.... learning that a good take-off speed for an a320 is around 150kts. Knowing that airliners cruise somewhere in between FL150 and FL350, with a speed somewhere around 300kts. Learning the speed limitations in an approach and departure.

Anyways, what I mean is: if you just play the game, you'll slowly get used to the units, as you'll learn what they should be at a given moment.
