Go idle again and disengage reverse.
Hope this will help.
1. Pull thrust lever to idle (=0)
2. Push "thrust reverse toggle" button (or push and hold if you chose the other keybind)
3. Push thrust lever to 50-100% (-> full reverse thrust is applied)
4. Bring thrust lever back to idle (=0)
5. Push "thrust reverse toggle" button (or release for the other button)
6. Continue with regular throttle
Here's another method using external software (FSUIPC) as there is currently no reverse axis in the game (which is kind of a bummer)
Edit: Note that aircrafts might have different conditions for reverse thrust to be applicable in terms of maximum altitude and speed.

But toggle propeller reverse thrust just puts the propeller in feather, which is the last thing you want to do if you intend to reverse.
Is it possible in game to get the Kingair 350 in full reverse. So far i've toggled reverse thrust then applied full power but it only takes it into ground idle. There should be a further segment of throttle available for reverse.
If you look at the throttle quadrant youll see it says lift, once at flight idle to get it into the beta range (ground idle) then it says lift again which is where you'd lift the throttle to get it into reverse. Ground idle will definitely help you brake but it won't give you any reverse. It makes short landings a little tough if you can't actually get the Kingair into reverse. Unless I'm missing something, it doesnt seem to be modelled.
This is how it performs on my X45 as well. Just before touching the ground, throttle is moved to idle if not there already, reverse toggle button is then pressed, and throttle needs to be moved forward again to power reverse
When you go to your preferences / Controls, make sure your filter is not set to Assigned, but rather to All.
This will probably help you find what you are looking for.
Yeah I figured this out about 20 mins after commenting and felt a bit stupid haha, cheers!
It makes a nice change being able to stop on the runway, I'm having the same issue as the OP though with reverse thrust on turbo-prop. It reverses the pitch of the prop but sets ground idle power no matter what I do - it's as if enabling reverse also renders the throttle useless - jets work fine though.
I don't even know why there is a control option for set prop to reverse. Accessing reverse thrust in turbo-props is done using the power levers.
The other weird thing is if you try the "toggle propeller to reverse" option in game using the Kingair, all it does is feather the props.
There may be an aircraft in existence where the pilot would have to select the propellers into the beta range and then apply power but I'm not aware of one.
