Steam FS2020 directory hierarchy *strange*???
Steam installed FS2020 on my F: Steam SSD (release day) as "F:\_STEAM\steamapps\common\Chucky". Is this legit? An inside joke? Sim runs fine but I seriously doubt future addons will be looking for the "Chucky" folder...smh

Thats not all, they hide a lot of it in the stupid %appdata% folder as well. I miss the days when everything was in one place in program files, or better yet a root directory on c like in the dos days. Waaay overcomplicated these days.

Yeah... I saw that convolution to add liveries and such... smh
Does anyone else have a "Chucky" FS2020 folder? How will 3rd party addons find that oddly misnamed folder lol???

Odd, mine saved under "Microsoft Flight Simulator" in the same folder, not Chucky. Could it represent different versions, like standard vs deluxe?

In a way I agree, but needing lower security on the root drive of you computer to access games and such was one of the biggest single ways viruses could wipe your computer.

Idk. It's bizarre. Nothing on my system is Charles, Chuck or Chucky lol....
Interesting that the 1st update seemed to install ok afaik

Same here, I do not have a folder named Chucky. Just Microsoft Flight Simulator.

If you look it up in the internet, at least some people seem to have the Chucky "problem". Not sure if it has to do with the installation process.

In my understanding the Steam folder is just for the base game (or framework) while all the content is stored in a default (AppData) or custom folder.
This will likely be where most of the future content will be stored.

Hello, I have also a chuck.. repertory, I think it is related to a pre-installation.

Oh good! I'm not the only one. I was doing some cleaning of my steamapp/commons folder and found "Chucky" lol.

These are the only possible reasons that I believe could be true.

Otherwise, lets start a conspiracy....

assign $INSTALLDIR='chucky'

Probably something like this, you had to tell it to put it in chucky, so it writes a value into the registry that the program reads, and knows the MSFS is install in /blah/blah/common/chucky.

Im not a fan boi of any sim but I will say this: I love how X-Plane 11 is totally self-contained in just one folder. In effect its like a big portable installation. Doesnt write stuff to the Registry.

For example - to move it to another drive I just copy-pasted the folder. Done. The installer even lets you create multiple installations. I have two. One is my heavily modded main install the other is a 100% stock installation. Very handy for testing.

I cant wait to get MSFS one day but I wish MS would create a neat installation routine. In true MS style (like they did for FSX) it seems that yet again stuff is scattered and buried all over the place as I can tell from the discussion in this thread.

chucky folder is for the xbox/MS installer the 532mb file, it unpacks to almost a 1GB folder in your steam directory to run the installer to download the rest of it from Microsoft.
