Ugliest parts to fly in FS2020
As said above,

Yes you can fly anywhere in the world, but that does not mean that it also looks very good at every place.

So where is your ugliest landscape encounter?

Mine is along the eastern coast of russia, the area west of Anchorage in Alaska.

Particulary Tilitsjiki area. (I know it,s flat there, but still no very pretty).

Flying around in a Cessna coming from the north east across the mountains, i have seen 4 differant satalite photo areas going over to another.

I wanted to relive my trip along the Congo river in 1989.
I thought cool I'll go to Kisangani in the DRC.I picked Kisangani International airport to load up in.
Man was I disappointed by it.
No Airport just a grass strip.
The city was a let down too.
No river boats pushing barges on the mighty Congo.
Landing on a river bank I noticed the water curved like a half pipe along the river.

Next on my agenda is Ngorongoro Crater in Tanzania.I set up a tent at a campsite there on the top edge of the crater also in 1989.I'm hoping as I fly down into the crater there will be flamingoes and some wildlife.

There's an area of the Caucasus that I frequent in another sim, roughly between Batumi (UGSB) and Krasnodar (URKK). Along the coast there should be a large number of small and not so small towns. Some parts of the area are obviously autogen with very high res terrain. Some areas where the smaller villages should be are by sharp contrast desolate, empty spaces. There's even grey patches on the ground that should be buildings, as if the Blackshark AI missed a few small towns.

Greenland is a mess

Also avoid the high mountains in Iceland

Skip this airport in the South West of the UK

Niagara falls is very ugly

Svalbard is fun to fly to and find the unlisted airport, however it looks pretty bland. Very low res, but actually the exact same as it looks on Bing maps. Made it easy to find the landing strip. (It's there in the distance along the water, left side of the bay)

Wonder how pretty these places are in X-plane...oh wait, that's right....they aren't there.

Try taking off at KCDV in Alaska and fly west a mile or two.... you'll see some sweet "gravity wells" creating hills of water in the rivers. Pretty cool looking actually.

I don't mind the empty or sandy or snowy or full forest areas looking bleak.. it's expected at launch... but major cities should have major buildings at least look like a texture of a building.. But I will wait and hope they start churning out texture fixes in major cities and frequent areas visited.... I guess my biggest disappointment is the Memphis Tn Pyramid... but over all it is still a great accomplishment at the same time.... we could nitpick for the rest of the year on areas though..

Memphis Pyramid and Bridges..

There is also something going on in the river between Monterey and Carmel Valley airport in California .. it has a split and keeps filling itself.. those millionaires around there are not going to be happy! I was out searching for Clint Eastwood and his Golf Course when I ran across it.. didn't see Clint.. but found the golf course.. and was also the area of my first Icon landing in the water down in Carmel-by-the-sea.. there is always good with the bad...ya just got to search for it..

Again..this early on..we could nitpick all nite long 24/7 for a month.. I expected every error I found so far to happen.. growing pains.

Mt. Rushmore is ugly and non existent. Looks just like it does on the maps. Satellite view is not adequate for all landmarks. Just not enough resolution and sometimes looking straight down or from an angle doesn't reveal much about landmarks such as Mt Rushmore. I would imagine the Statue of Liberty would be quite ugly as well and perhaps the Eiffel Tower if they haven't been retouched at all.

I find the city buildings to be lacking. They are all there but the lights in them look very strange and not at all natural. Almost digital looking. Chicago metro is gorgeous at night in real life and in the sim but downtown Chicago near the loop is ugly as hell in the sim.

There are many ugly parts, the worst I have seen so far were Greenland and Antarctica (and yes, there are airports in Antarctica, eg Belgrano II)

Northern California, near Mendocino. The rocks on the coast turn into trees... None of the breathtaking cliffs are represented in-game. :(

The Washington Monument is a glass-walled skyscraper. The Capitol bldg and White House aren't well rendered either.

The port of Barcelona is completely bugged, there are buildings that are much too tall that have probably been misinterpreted by the algorithms, the cranes look like nothing at all, it's awful !
Some areas in the south of France near Toulon are exceedingly ugly if you fly too low over them, above 1500ft it's okay. In the Alps there is a huge lack of trees, a lot of mountains are completely bare, I hope that all this will be corrected one day ....
ZombieHunter Sep 1, 2020 @ 7:29pm
I suspect the best result would be a mix of satellite data AND assets designed by artists for the buildings that don't look good even with the AI rendering.

They've always hand crafted the main iconic buildings and landmarks. I'm surprised Mt Rushmore isn't in.
