Moon phase accuracy
It's accurate. I'm curious to see how dark it really gets a couple weeks when it turns to a new moon. 9pm MST i shouldn't see the glow of the sun beyond the horizon to the west either.

I'm also currently flying over the Gulf of Mexico on my way to cancun. There's a subtle orange glow at 35,000 feet i don't think should be there

it's a flight sim, not a moon simulator, wait for the moon update in 2021

At that altitude you may being seeing a sunset, specially if it is 9pm local time. Did you see it becoming more prominent the higher you flew?

Not trying to make it moon simulator. I'm merely commenting the degree of accuracy shown in the phases

As a matter of fact i got some ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ screenshots of the sunset and even watched the last tiny little bit of sun dip beyond the horizon. My altitude was 35k feet the entire trip and i'd say the orange glow got less prominent as time went on. Just a minor annoyance really.

My whole gripe really is it's too bright out at night, but it very well just maybe the the sun's reflection on the moon. Yknow how you can see better at night during a full moon than during a new moon, when you generally can't see 2 fingers in front of your face? I'm hoping we get that

You mean, if all intruments failed you would have the chance to navigate with the help of the moon and constellations? (imagine the Skeletor Emoticon here)

Yeah. Celestial objects are important for planes as well. Also avionics unit system was adopted from sea. Knot is used. Sailors even use more than Moon, they use stars :papyrus:

I'm 95% of real world aviators have absolutely no clue how to navigate via the stars. I'm sure there are, but in the age of GPS and computerized avionics, there's no real need these days. #prayingforasolarflare

I didn't say that pilots also use stars but it was important for sailors :papyrus:
my point is that in the age of GPS, it's just not an ultra necessary skill these days, although useful to know

You got it

In a game like Flight Simulator, navigating by stars is something you learn to show off

Showing off something on Steam is the best. This is why we choose here :papyrus:

It's more fun when talk about virtual accomplishments as if they were real. The looks you get when you tell people you just finished flying from New York to Los Angeles without GPS, but neglect to mention it was done in a video game.....

Screw GPS, give me a nav radio and a CDI.

Psh. A Radio? Bruh, we're all about analog navigation. Compass, paper map and a sense of adventure!

i was really impressed to look out my window and see specular highlights of the moon reflecting off my wing. More impressed that they're modeling it when the moon is not visible on the screen, most games use screen space reflections and only reflect things that are visibly rendered

on the nav comment - I could not have completed the nevada bush trip if it weren't for https://skyvector.com/ 's VFR charts. Several of the directions are out of order and at least one is flat out wrong.

I'm sure the moon in the game is just the sun with different textures, programming and illumination properties.....

The Moon and the Sun have proper location in the game. I checked and it even shows solar eclipse, if you know where and when to look.

That's a good one!

The only other game i can readily list that has accurate placement of sun, moon and stars is Arma 3. Not sure if my mind should be blown as i've seen it before.

Still though, at least in Arma 3 it's dark af during a new moon phase
