That loading bar is useless. Did you choose the installation path for the update?
Surprise. This is the infamous loading bug that's been with the program since release. A patch specifically addressing this bug is anticipated some time this week. Check out the August 27th "Development Update" on the main MSFS website [flightsimulator.com].
I got the same problem and got a refund. I advise you to do the same.
i did choose my own installation path
There were times that the game forced the installation of update back to the default system drive, causing conflicts of installation location.

You may try going to

C:\Users\XXXX\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft Flight Simulator --> UserCfg.opt

Open the file with notepad, go to the bottom line

change the installation path manually (make sure the designated folder has been created already)

Save and close the file. Start the game again.

Sounds interesting ! I have tried what u say, and in my case the path will look like this : D:\Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020.CFG

But I don't understand how to change that path on the bottom with my new one ? I have opened the file with Notepads btw. Some help would be highly appreciated.

The funny thing is that I already have 42 hours of flight time, but I had to reinstall my OS, and now I experience what all the other people here experience... incredibly annoying, to say the least.

I am not sure what you mean here. I didn't mean this file. The file has to be "UserCfg.opt".

Once you find it, use notepad to open it. Scroll to the bottom line you will see the default path. You can change it and save and close the file. Start the game and see.

One more question, do you have 90 gb of space in your system drive?

i got tired of attempting to download a 3gb patch.. loading bug.. so i redownloaded the entire thing. or you could wait on the next update.. it's supposed to fix these issues.

Thanks for the answer. No, I don't have 90 gig available in my system drive. My OS is installed on a 120 gig SSD. Howcome ? I have designated an external SSD for the sim, which has all the folders in it. As I mentioned, I have been playing for roughly 120 hours before I had to reinstall my OS.
i have space and i will try the cfg method
changing the user cfg didnt help it is still a slow blue bar that gets stuck i might wait for the patch to come out and i will try again
I was actually able to change the path, but I am very confused where to change it to. I created an entirely new post in here to see if i can get som help. This is a copy of the post:

MSFS2020 update

I'm so confused right now. I HAVE been playing the sim for more than 100 hours, but after I had to reinstall my OS, when I try to launch the sim and I come to the install/update page, it says that I will have to install to my OS drive, and this can't be changed. However, I found a post that suggested I change my "userCfg.opt" file and change the installation path. I have done that now, and the game is installing. The size of the file is 95,15 Gig. What I wonder about is if this will create an entirely new instance of the msfs2020 on that drive, doubling the occupied space on that drive ? Or is this just an update ? On the Microsoft installation page I get the options "browse" and "update" By the way, I changed the update path to ( D:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\MicrosoftFlightSimulator\Packages ) where D: being my external SSD with the sim in it. Does this sound roughly right to you guys ?

So if you or anyone else in this thread see this, please feel free to reply.
There is no problem where you choose to install the update. Yes, a newly created 95 gig file will occupy new space. You can also find the old one and delete it without issues.

AHA..Thanks again. Do you know where to find the old instance ? 35 gig downloaded at the time of writing.
C:\Users\XXXX\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft Flight Simulator\packages

Maybe here?
