Hard not to focus on it at times as it is quite a significant effect on the screen close to the clouds.
Volumetric cloud plugins for X-Plane 11 provide pretty close to this look without that weird effect. Red Dead Redemption's volumetric clouds are also impressive.
Yeah, that is what I try and do, but for some of us with whatever issue this is, it is really, really noticeable. To the point that I have been doing flights in clear weather so I do not have to look at it :-(
I feel the same. The game is by no means broken or anything like that, but I would like to figure out what the resolution to this is. Is it a minor issue that only has an effect on a very small number of users or is it wide spread and people are just living with it with a /shrug? I assume that monitors are not the issue given any modern monitor running at 60hz and above?
I will keep tinkering and see if I stumble across something randomly..
It's pretty much wide spread from what I've gathered but yes we learned to live with it lol.
It doesn't really bother me until I'm at FL300 overcast with a floor of grainy clouds, otherwise it's not too bad.
doesnt work for me :)
Red Dead Redemption 2 has the same issue, though its clouds are far less detailed so you don't notice as much.

Did this one ages ago.
A few things to add about it ...
1. If you're running an Nvidia card, also make sure you have the Sharpen Filter turned off in the driver settings (it probably will be - but worth checking). Not sure if there is an equivalent for AMD cards sorry.
2. If you set the read-only flag and then later have problems with the sim after an update, it's possible this might be a problem. Personally, I don't do this - I just check and redo the settings after updates. Keep a back-up of the Usercfg and use a diff tool to merge after updates (if necessary- which is rarely anyway).
3. You'll notice a general softening of the entire game when you set Sharpen = 0. I've found a way to get some of it back without too big a hit on the cloud appearance. I run ReShade and apply a Lumasharpen filter - works good for me.

and super sample to get good looking results. Clouds are still a bit grainy but I only notice it when clouds move in front of the sun at sunset or sunrise.
Any sharpen setting only creates fake detail and makes any flaw stand out. The game still adds those contrast edges around lightning strikes and bright reflective rivers, no idea how you can turn that off. Maybe it has something to do with bloom?
I have a theory it's something to do with TAA - but your theory is as good as mine. :-)
Sadly not, people thought the same about RDR2 but the pixelation isn't affected by any AA setting, depth of field or bloom.
