I’m halfway through my PPL in real life and it’s not like real life flying in the sense that I’ve safely landed every flight I’ve done so far even in new aircraft and had my instructor given me the controls for landing in my early real life lessons I’d have dug a decent crater into the ground, but it gives a pretty good approximation of being someone with some flying skills already there if that makes any sense - a good sense of what it feels like to fly a plane without the holy crap I’m gonna die of actually flying a real plane without skills :)
While I agree with some of your points, some of the points seem a bit wrong.
1) It feels exactly like flying, from the effects of the prop, to wind, and so on. It's pretty bang on in most of it.
2) To be fair, that is the point of flying, you take off, you fly, you land. While I do hope either addons, or DLC comes along that adds more, that sort of is the point of the game.
3) Well that is probably down two things. They really don't want people crashing into buildings and making it seem not so bad. Second, they have to get the licence to reproduce these aircraft in game. Generally companies who sign off on this add a clause where you aren't allowed to damage or destroy them in game. Some companies are ok with it it, but most aren't. I can understand why, though it would be cool to see a wing come off if you over stress, but again, this is a flight simulator, not a crash simulator.
4) I can agree with this, but if you look into the way they do it, it sort of makes sense. They are essentially taking a top down view and extrapolating what it should look like. Same reason why your house doesn't look exactly as it does in real life. Though if you go to Melbourne, you can find a 212 story tall sky scraper that is only supposed to be 21 stories. Seems like they have to work some stuff out still.
5) I don't use BING maps, so I'm not sure the deal with that, again, just bugs that have to be sorted.
All and all I agree between some of that and the lack of optimization, it does feel like it was released a bit too early. It does need work, but at the same time it really is an amazing program. I wouldn't even give XPlane 11 with all of it's addons and DLC a second look.
Exactly that! I do wonder how many people who are complaining and refinding either have a lot of time invested in XPlane or have a substandard PC and so are blaming the sim.
Did you type all that in the refund request? lol
I to refunded it with 5 hours because I was having CTD every time I fired it up.
I then re bought it but only the standard version I had the Prem deluxe. Figured I could take the ride a little easier for 59.99 than 119.99 .
I then figured out what was causing the CTD and now I'm having a ball.
as for
1. It looks like real world , mostly, not sure why you don't like that
2. Its a Flight Sim that's what they do.
3. MS Flight Sims have always been like that. And you're not zooming around Google earth its Bing Earth and that's what the earth looks like so I don't understand that complaint
4. Bing doesn't actually have the entire earth so the AI tries to fill it in but doesn't alway do it right but it will get better. SO what about the rest of the earth? Oh its Google earth, which is the earth. I've never heard of someone complaining the terrain was too good. lol
5. So you admit you didn't really want it except to fly by your house. got it
Yes maybe they should have called it Early Access but anyone that has flown flight sims for any time knows this is ground breaking stuff and since they were running a beta right up till a few day before release it should have been a clue that it wasn't finished, and these things never are. MS says this is a 10 year project so it will only get better. But the world will still look like Bing maps because Bing maps looks like the world
I think you never planned on keeping it, like you said you just wanted to see the terrain at your home.
It helps if you have an interest in Flight and aircraft because you can do a whole lot more than just taking off and landing. Like Actually learning how each Aircraft actually works in RL.
Oh well.
So what was causing your CTD?
So it's so bad that you want a refund but not so bad that you won't go to xplane or something easier. Right.
