Which yoke or joystick?
I need to get a new yoke it joystick. My old one will not do it’s an old £30 Thrustmaster. I have been looking at the Logitech (saitek) yoke which is £120 with the throttle quadrant and the pedals I think are another £80. I have seen the honeycomb yoke but the price is £280 just for the yoke and I would need to buy the pedals and throttle quadrant. It would be a hefty bill.

So my main question is to anyone who has owned either or has an alternative yoke or joystick.

Honeycomb

If you're gonna get a yoke the Honeycomb is by far the one that gives you the best bang for your buck. While it's not cheap either, it's miles ahead of the Logitech.
A pretty good alternative would be going the joystick route, where the Thrustmaster T.16000M FCS Hotas (stick and throttle) and T.Flight pedals will end up costing the same or even less as just the Honeycomb. I think there's even a package containing all three, but it seems to vary a bit whether or not the big package or two smaller ones are cheaper.

Yeah because I am used to using an old HOTAS I don’t know any better. If I could find a honeycomb with pedals and throttle below £350 I think that would be able to do that.

Is a yoke better over a stick?

Wait for the Thrustmaster airbus combo. lol

My Logictec Extreme 3d pro served me well for years and was only like $35. The yoke is far more expensive, but is better for most planes. If money doesn't mean much to you go for the yoke.

Going the honeycomb route would indeed be a heftier bill, but if there's any chance that you could afford it, I would highly recommend it. I have a Saitek Cessna yoke, and now the Honeycomb, and the difference in quality and enjoyment is striking.

Saitek X52 Pro! cannot recommend it enough...i use it for years now and never had any problems.

pros:

- not as expensive as comparable hotas systems
- has alot of buttons, hats, switches and knobs
- fully programmable
- most sims and space-games have presets for this hotas
- you can adjust the stick to fit your hand :taloslol:
- adjustable throttle resistance
- has a good stand, doesn't slip, mountable
- glows in the dark (alot of LEDs, colour costumizable, can be switchend off)
- building quality is great (no wiggling and wobbling, some metal parts)
- rudder twist (great when you don't have pedals, can be deactivated)

on the downside:

- the stick has a bigger deadzone like more expensive sticks...but i never noticed that before i read about it (means when you move it like 1 mm from the center nothing happens). the throttle is as precise as it gets.

- has a detent in the throttle which may really bother you. so alot of people open the casing of the throttle and remove the detent manually (no big deal, 5 minutes of work,a screwdriver will do - but guarantee will be gone)...after this modification the throttle works and feels like a charm :LIS_pixel_heart:

- right-handed throttle & stick only

I’m looking into the honeycomb right now, seeing if any one has a bundle or deal. Every where I read about the honeycomb, it is much more superior to any other mid range yokes
Definitely HoneyComb, maybe T16000.M as an addon later for Airbus flying or something but I for sure am getting the Yoke first.

Yea I think get the honeycomb yoke and then throttle quad and pedals from saitek.

Same exact setup I'm aiming for. I hope you enjoy the game and hardware. :steamhappy:

I am going to back track now. I know it sounds silly but I didn’t actually think too much into what a yoke was until I read a HOTAS VS YOKE comparison.

Yoke is a steering wheel.

HOTAS is a stick.

I feel that I may be better suited to a stick. Not to sound controversial but I’m starting to think I wouldn’t enjoy a yoke as much as a stick. I may be wrong but I am going to start searching for a stick to put up against the honeycomb and the compare the two

Oh yeah. I've had that thought so so many times. Which is why I'm going to get the yoke and throttle and get the side stick a bit later and then I have both and a very good quality throttle as well. Hotas is bad for flight sim since it is usually only one throttle where as the HoneyComb throttle is up to four separate engines with reversers, flap and speed brake, autopilot, and so much customization for a throttle.

I've gone back and forth a lot and watched loads of YouTube. But the Honeycomb products have a quality most side sticks don't have and it will be easier to rest hands on for long sessions. In the end it's up to you and the user experience. I'm still not even done deciding myself.
All I know is a side stick is better for more genres then sims and they are fantastic for combat flight while a yoke is only for flight sim since it has more degrees of rotation so turns are more precise but usually can be slower. I kind of compare sidesticks turning to like a Logitech Flight Yoke since that is only a total of 90 degree rotation.

Personally if you want a realistic flying i think that the logtiech x56 is the best. Thats what i have. It has plent of switches and buttons. And has lasted me 4 years.

Honestly, something like this is the best bang-for-buck option for the average person. No, it's not the most "authentic" looking thing in the world for the type of flying on offer in MSFS, but the build quality is decent (I would say quite a bit moreso than the Logi Yoke/throttle combo), and as stated, the thing has a heap of mappable switches, buttons and knobs, which you're not going to get otherwise without paying a premium. It's also going to be a lot more versatile if you want to use it with other games.

On the stick vs yoke thing; there are plenty of aircraft around these days that are stick controlled, so if you're going to be flying a bit of everything, I wouldn't worry that you'd be losing authenticity by choosing a stick over a yoke.

Not to take anything away from yokes, mind; I've got my eyes on a Yoko :steamhappy:
