- Keep an eye on every spawn to stop youself from being surrounded.
- Reload at the right time.
- Don't be afraid to retreat to somewhere and just run around the map.
- Get into a place with few routes for zeds into it, and an easy escape route for you.
- Headshot everything
- Use onperk weapons only, unless certain that the offperk one is good (e.g. lar)
- Use cover for sirens and husks
If you die before the patriach, make sure there is someone who can deal with scrakes, a sharpshooter for instance, and someone who can deal with fleshpounds, demolitions or sharpshooter. A medic is also handy and someone should focus on sirens and husks with the other players dealing with the other zeds.
If the patriarch gets you. Stay near cover, so the chaingun doesn't mow you down. Have a medic, or two to heal injured players. On normal difficulty a medic could be equipped with a crossbow relatively easily for extra firepower. Make sure you are all close to one another, so the patriarch doesn't pick you off one-by one, and hope that no random players join on the last wave, only to help with a 9mm after boosting up the patriarchs health significantly.

That should give you an idea of the path to take around the map. Remember when you're kiting to be careful not to kill too much at once or you'll risk triggering large spawns in front of yourself which could lead to you getting sandwiched. Just kill a few at a time and stay on the move.
Fleshpounds (the big muscular dudes with glowing yellow lights) will probably be the biggest threat depending on what perk you're playing as. Some perks can handle them much better than others (support, sharpshooter or demolitons) but other perks (firebug, commando, berserker) can't kill Fleshpounds quickly and if you choose one of them, you'll probably need to take your time with it. But if you're kiting, you don't need to worry about the Fleshpound immediately and you can just take your time and chip away at his health with pot shots as you run around the map. Just remember not to cause too much damage too quickly or let him have line of sight with you for more than about 15 seconds or he'll rage.
Maybe. It's always random between 11 and 15 seconds.
