Playing without internet connection
Hello, my friends want to spent their holiday by playing Killing Floor. Everyone has a legal Steam-Version. Now we want to play together with a switch, but we have no internet connection. I know that I played in the good old times cs1.6 without internet connection so you couldn't play online but LAN. And this is what we wanted to do, too. Is this possible?
thx for helping :)

This game is not meant to be played without internet connection, in offline mode you can only play solo (may need to be online first to go into ofline mode with steam) but you won't be able to play with friends, get achievements or level your perks.

At the time of the Halloween event I was working out in Zambia, and I might as well have been on the far side of the moon, as far as decent Internet access was concerned. It took me two nights to download the game update so that I could play at all. Then the best ping I could get over the hotel wifi was 250+, rising to 800+ every minute or so. I very quickly realized that solo was the only way I was going to get any of the Halloween achievements, which was kind of dull... but even my desperately slow Internet connection was enough to upload my achievements. Eventually.

I've tried using a 3G dongle while playing KF. It's do-able, although occasional outages still occur. A 5GB a month allowance is enough for quite a few evenings on Killing Floor, and 10GB is virtually impossible to use up in this way.

Setting up a private server so you and a few friends can play together sounds... tricky. I think you'd lose all your perks or at least fail to chalk up and progress. At the very least, I think your game host machine would need an Internet connection, even if it was of the crappy copper phone line variety that still seems to exist in sub-Saharan Africa - just to Synch with Steam and show that everything was legit.
:-D Thanks for your comments :-)
@ [5e] Torque: "in offline mode you can only play solo" Thar is not correct! If you have no internet connection you can go to "Multiplayer" and ther you can choose "LAN", so you can play without internet connection together. I tried it and it works.
In most cases I changed at the same day at home where i hae internet connection into the offline mode, went to university there is no internet connection and so i could play with my friends without problems. But what is if i have forgot to switch into offline mode at home? Can i go into offline mode without internet connection?
--> Yes, but only with an own written file which you can find in the woerld wide web ;-)
