Hosting listen server -_-
So, I dont suppose since I last attempted to get this to work 4 months ago the situation has changed at all?

Just went through setting a static IP and all the router port forwarding and my friend still gets "server not responding" when trying to join. I love KF and tripwire, but not being able to host private matches without renting a server sucks. Are there any recent guides or posts about this? I searched but everything is older and most of it unresolved.

Any help would be greatly appreciated as I have a few friends who would like to buy the game if we could just play private matches.

Thanks.

Hm, I get it to work just fine when I forward the ports listed here[forums.tripwireinteractive.com]. Have you checked to see if maybe it's a problem on your friends end? Have you tried with multiple friends?

Also,

Thank you for your reply. I have/am currently testing now with a few different people. I also just tried the ServerBehindNAT=False Set it to True change and that did not appear to make a difference :((

This is so frustrating.

Also, just to note, we have tried both direct invitations via steam and putting in the IP address. With the steam invite it just says "server not responding" right away. With the direct Ip connection it just hangs indefinitley on the standard connectiong screen (with the hit f10 to cancel option and the address etc).

I can't honestly say I understand what it is, but your NAT settings may be set to High/Secure. Basically depending on your NAT settings you can only play with other people with the same NAT setting. (If that makes any sense)

That being said, have you tried forwarding all the ports required for Steam? The list for these ports can be found here. If your router has a UPnP option, turn that on. with UPnP on you shouldn't need to forward any ports, but not all routers have this option.

Are your friends trying to connect to your game through steam friends list? If so this isnt going to work. Steam is probably reporting your internal IP and not your external IP so when they try and join it will fail.

You will have to tell your friends what your current external IP is.[www.whatismyip.com]
Get them to load Killing Floor and when at the title screen press the console key (tilde).
With console open type "open yourIP:port number"
example...
open 94.172.92.88:7707
then hit enter.

If you have portforwarded properly and your server is running they should connect.
Hope this helps?

Thanks again for your reply. Im sorry, but I dont know a whole lot about computers and I dont quite understand what NAT settings are or how to find or adjust them.

My router does have the UPnP option and, along with all the forwarded ports, it is currently active. I have also forwarded all the same ports in windows firewall network settings. I have not yet forwarded those extra steam ports. I dont ahve trouble with any other steam games :/

Forget what I said about NAT settings and the Steam ports, check out Nurdle's post.

After reading his post:
The in-game Server Browser should also work.

Thanks for your post nurdle. We just tried that and it said connecting as usual for a minute, then the screen went black for him and then nothing. And yes the in game server browser has always worked normally, we can both join most other games fine. Just cannot host :(

ediy: after a few minutes it finally said connection failed :/

Hmmmmmm....
So ports....
7707 UDP
7708 UDP
7717 UDP
20560 UDP
8075 TCP
28852 TCP/UDP (might be an option called Both in the router)
have been forwarded and manual conneciton still failed?

I have seen cases where a router had the option for Port Fowarding and Virtual Servers.
Does your router have an option called Virtual Servers?
If so remove the ports from the port forwarding section and re-add them to the Virtual servers section instead.

Yes Nurdle all of those ports. The router has the option for both TCP/UDP at once so I did them all as that.

Checking the manual and the router page I do not see anything about virtual servers :/

When you are portwarding you are forwarding to the correct internal IP?

also your not running any other firewall software apart from windows firewall or an antivirus with built in firewall?

If thats the case then the security on the router might be set too high. You may need to look through security options of your router.
May i ask what make and model of router you are using? Maybe i can fish around the net and see what i can come up with.
