This game sucks, DON'T BUY IT.
Now before I continue and any fanboys decide to rip me a new one let me first start by saying, that I'm stating my personal opinions.

First my biggest complaint is that it's ♥♥♥♥ing impossible to join a multiplayer game. So much so that I would feel justified in demanding a refund. Any time I go to join any server I get a message that says "Receiving [some file name] X% done." And when that is done loading the file name just changes and it downloads something else. And on and on and on.

My very first experience with this game was waiting 20 mins for it to finish receiving a never ending series of files when I tried to join a server. I just sat there and watched TV while it loaded and by the time it was finished with all it's ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ I didn't even want to play anymore. And the problem is that this doesn't seem to be a one time patch or download. I get that crap every single time I try to join any server. And call me crazy but I don't think I should have to wait 20 mins every time I want to join a new server. And my internet is not to blame, my download speeds max out at 15 Mbps. I can download an 8 gig steam game in about 10-15 mins.

Next is the gameplay it's self. I don't know how to describe this but the game just doesn't feel natural. Aiming the gun around, moving, reloading, and shooting all feels a little off. Like it's controlling just a bit wonky.

Which leads me to my last complaint: the controls. The lack of controller support is disappointing. I know it's listed as lacking controller support so at least they are honest about it. But it doesn't change that it sucks.

There are PC elitists out there who will try to tell you that ANY game lacking in controller support is fine, because we should all just be using their preferred input method, the "superior" mouse and keyboard, anyways. Those people can ♥♥♥♥ off. Don't get me wrong if you prefer that as your input method more power too you. I do as well for certain types of games that controllers just can't do, but not for FPS's. I just don't like the people who think that since they like using a certain input method everyone else should have to use it too weather they like it or not.

But I'm getting kind of off topic here. The point of this rant is that in my opinion Killing Floor is a turd and not even a polished one at that. If you haven't bought this game and are considering it my recommendation is to burn your money instead. You would at least get the entertainment of playing with fire which is more value than this game offers.

Not every server has addons, this also isn't a problem for KF but nearly any multiplayer game that has dedicated servers.

Rather broad. Not sure exactly aiming and moving feels weird.

That's because you're joining custom servers and not vanilla Killing Floor ones. Custom Servers tend to have coloured text or something in the server name like Custom Perks or Aliensmod. You don't have to download anything if you join a normal game.

Because it's just not what you're used to, it's not bad, nr is it horrible, it's just as functional and good as every other FPS game out there. If you want bad movement and controls try playing Arma 2.

This game is a mod for UT2004 and was released in 2007, of course it doesn't have controller support. You complain that not having it sucks and people who say to use a mouse and keyboard are elitist and you shouldn't have to use a control scheme you don't want. Well that goes both ways. You're playing a game on a PC, as in COMPUTER. A majority of your time on which you use a KEYBOARD and MOUSE to interact with. If you hate a keyboard and mouse so much then why are you playing games on PC in the first place? Not every game has controller support and it's fine if they don't because they're not required to nor is it ethically or morally wrong if they don't. This is like me buying an Xbox and being outraged I can't use my PS3 controller or Keyboard and Mouse with it because I prefer it, now doesn't that sound silly? Well it's no different here.

This isn't even getting to the fact this game doesn't really work with a controller anyway. I know a few people who use Joy2Key to use a controller but they're missing half the buttons and actions that you would get. Not to mention without ADS Snap it can be pretty hard to aim for the head which is essential for Killing Floor.

I'm sorry but you've played this game for an hour and you even stated that you had to wait 20 minutes for files to download from multiple servers which means you couldn't have played for more than 10 - 30 minutes. Nowhere near enough to judge a game and what you have judged it on isn't even the game itself, but you joining custom servers and it not having controller support. If that really makes you hate a game so much then please go and play whatever games you perfer and stop giving out undeserved insults to a great game.

"You only played for one hour"

I haven't even played this 10 mins. Most of that hour was spent navigating the horrible menus and waiting for ridiculous load times which is why I'm so fed up in the first place. I bought a game that spends more time in the menus loading than it does actually playing.

"Not every server has addons, this also isn't a problem for KF but nearly any multiplayer game that has dedicated servers."

Does the server filter let me hide servers that will make me waste all that time downloading add-ons? If so that would of course solve that particular complaint.

"Rather broad. Not sure exactly aiming and moving feels weird." "Oh this is why" (in refrence to the fact that I prefer controllers for FPS games)

It's not just that I prefer the controller that makes this game feel weird to me. I'm more than proficent with the MaK on lots of shooters that I do like. Again it's hard to describe and it's entirely subjective but the controls just don't feel smooth or natural, and I'm not talking about what inputs control what functions.

I'm talking about how the games responsiveness to those inputs just doesn't feel right to me. Again completely subjective and hard to describe but none the less a valid complaint in my mind.

I use a joystick mouse for controls and it feels fine. In fact I personally find Ghost recon series and many other games like L4D actually give me a headache to play, I think it may be that fuzz o vision that is supposed to "simulate realtity", awful in my opinion.
But to address your controller issue, I have read about people using Xpedder or Xped or something like that in order to progam controllers to work. Hopefullly someone with that set up will respond to this issue for you. Perhaps you could search or start a thread concerning controller support to get helpful results?
When going multiplayer, if a map loads with no problem on solo, as long as you join an un modded server you should not see anything downloading at all... servers that try to download a ton of stuff, I normally just hit F10 and move on to another server, its normally something like damage pop ups that I find kind of annoying and distracting anyway.
There are many user creted maps on servers, those take time to download, but if you end up liking a map you can "subscribe" to it in the workshop and it will be loaded for use in your map list and won't need to download when you go to a pub.

@ GunsForBucks

RE: Xpadder and other keymappers. Yep I know about those. One I like using is pinnacle game profiler. It's only free for the first 20 days but lets you download the control scheme profiles for just about all games, weather they come with native controller support or not.
GunsForBucks Dec 2, 2013 @ 2:53am
In terms of add ons on a server, if you read the server name in the browser it normally has, as part of its name, add ons and mods, if the map is not one you can play solo then it is not an official game map and will either need to be downloaded or subscibed to.
GunsForBucks Dec 2, 2013 @ 3:01am
I don't know much about the controller thing, I program my joystick to keystrokes with its software that came with it... I have never used a 'scheme" before, I just make mine from scratch, I would think any keyboard emulator would let you make your own profile, pretty sad if it wouldn't.
Wait, I'm a little confused. If you have a key mapper that you "prefer" but refuse to pay for it after a 20 day trial, how could you be so dedicated to only using that software? I think Xped is free and once you progarm it what difference dose it make? It is just emulating keystrokes, it should act the same regardless of what software you use.

Your post is really kinda rude.

I do understand that each and everyone of you have your own point of view but it doesn't mean that u have the right to say "THIS GAME SUCK! DON'T BUY IT!" cause it is kinda disrespectful.A better approach would be like "i wouldn't recommend buying this game because ...." or "i feel disappointed in this game" or anything that doesn't sound that rude. How would you feel if you made this game and i wrote that for a title.yeah...not really nice.

I am not really a fan of this game either.I don't play it because i don't think i will enjoy it(since i watch it on stream.not my kind of game) but hey,it is on steam for a reason and why 1000+ people are still playing it.

Can't really argue with you about what u have to said about the game because i haven't play it AT ALL but I was just hoping that you guys will prevent from using such a harsh title like that and i think u should have wrote this on the "review section" lol

I will start by saying this is my personal opinion ;)

So basically your slagging this game off and those that say keyboard and mouse are better (in most cases) because you have next to no knowledge of gaming and how servers work that add extra content, and find it hard yourself to use a keyboard and mouse ?
You most probably want a p iss easy game that requires no skill & presents no challenge so that you can play blindfolded and feel like you own, never realising the programming has been doing your aiming for you all these years, when you thought your were a god at gaming?
Oh dear lol

Servers.
This is your inability to read and your lack of knowledge, as before joining any server in this game once clicked on you get to see any "mutators" that are included, so if you don't want to spend time downloading then pick a server that has none listed or is listed with a fast download.
These servers are provided mostly FREE by other gamers, some are modded to provide extra content or game enhancing features, you should be greatfull they provide this service.
Also there is a WORKSHOP which provides many of the mods(mutators) for you to subscribe to before hand so you dont have to download when connecting in game.
After joining and downloading a file from a server it will also stay on your system for a short while after you played the game, yet again another plus point as if you play regular it keeps the file, if not it will delete it so therefore doesn't clutter your storage with needless files.
If you can't find a server than this game gives you the ability to either run a listen server or get server files for a dedicated one.
Not many games do this but then i wouldnt expect you to know this either after reading your uninformed opinion.

Aiming.
No real difference in aiming from any other game other than NO console or cod easy aim i do it for you and make you feel like a god. As any other game though sensitivity etc may need to be adjusted to personal prefference. Maybe you need to clean your mouse or try using on a flat surface, or so used to just using your mouse for browsing you don't know how to game with it? lol.

Movement
Agreed this game can take some getting used to as it is different to the norm, but once learned you find it compliments the game and team work between the different classes and adds a lot more depth, rather than being like every other game out there which for some of us unlike yourself is a refreshing change from the same old easy boring stuff.

Controller support?
You are kidding right? As for telling many to F off, that's real nice mate and realy is asking for being slated :/
If you took the time to see how many controls there are for this game a controller does not enable you to use them all, IT DOES NOT HAVE ENOUGH BUTTONS !
Do you get what this means or not? D'oh!
Why should they support? this is an old game not designed for controllers , maybe also they dont want to handicap those hardened gamers who have no issues unlike yourself with K&M, so.... your asking for something to be supported thats unable of supporting hahaha!
It's just like asking for a knife to eat soop, it can be done but ya just cant get a mouthfull, only a small taste :D
Communication is the key in this game, using a keyboard provides the needed tools for this, so you see a controller will only stop you being as an effective team mate as someone the same skill on a keyboard, that's just a fact whether you like it or not !
You may still own if good enough playing on a controller but the fact is there is stuff you just cannot do !
Time to get of YOUR high horse i think, it's not the others with the problem more so you.
If you choose to use controller that's your choice, this game was not desgined for it hence why it is not included, and FPS's were born on PC and diluted onto console, they continue to develop too, but what are you saying..... just because of people like you games should stay the same and keep supporting limited control methods, seriously?
If controller support is needed that badly then map the controlls yourself, any game without controller support can usually be enabled with 3rd party software. But as most will say it's your loss, but that's your choice, don't blame others for that !!

This whole thread is a joke. Just ignore the OP and let it die.
MRU♠ Dec 2, 2013 @ 5:05am
The reason people are not helpful but ironic about you OP, is mostly because of your thread title.
1. Servers. Use the check box in the server filter called "Perks enabled". This will exclude the most heavlly modded servers.
2. You will get used to the feeling and the keys.
3. Tbh, this game doesn't really suit a controller. Sure, it would be playable, but not as good. you will notice yourself when/if you put more hours in the game.
4. The game is amazing and I really recommend you give it some more time. Favourite the servers you enjoy to play on ( Play normal difficulty when you are new to the game. It's not mostly about how good your aiming is. It's about you knowledge and how to play the different perks the right way to actually contribute to the co-op.)
