prefer the gameplay of KF2, the ragdolling of enemies is fun and the parry system adds another thing to master
And frankly, the only reason I'd buy KF2 again is for the level editor, as I mainly play it on Xbox, and the only reason I'd buy KF1 again is if I could get my hands on a physical copy - that is if those exist.
I like the gritty raw details of KF1, the music, well everything.
The only thing I like from KF2 is that hammer that has that explosive thing attached to it. Grug smash!
The only thing that is a major bad thing with KF1 is the hitbox for the heads, which is some of the biggest garbage I've ever seen in a game, other then that, it's perfect and KF2 can eat ♥♥♥♥, and if rumours are to be belivied, KF3 can also eat ♥♥♥♥ since it looks to get even further away from the formula I love.
I'd love a remaster of KF1 where they only fix the bugs, keep the physics engine mostly the same in terms of maths, fix the security holes/exploits and give a touch of graphics fidelity to it (such as more visceral blood) and do a slight rebalance of the weapons so some of them are not ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ (Bile thrower for example).
Even better if you only have to purchase the game, but if you already own the DLC on KF1, it get's registered for free in said Remaster (but I don't doubt for a second that Tripwire being the grubby money pinchers they are requiring you to buy the dlc all over again).
If it's not possible, I one day hope the community that's left would be interested in making some form of "OpenKF1" where the mission goal is to keep everything mostly the same, but with the security flaws, bugs and exploits gone and on a more modern engine with better dev tools for mutators etc. Legally it would be very easy to make without Tripwire kvetching, since OpenRCT clearly can exist, and not even Nintendo could do ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ about the Super Mario 64 PC port since it does not redistribute assests nor contains even a single line of code from Nintendo.
big oof right here
Survival horror vibe is where it's at.
