Maybe it would be best to ask someone at the workshop who allready created some custom weapons.

I say what exactly it is cause there are at least 3 ways you can get this done. As a custom weapon, a reskin mutator or a clientside mod.

All 3 suck, its not as easy as KF2.

I'm a bit late to help however, in order to edit textures of anything really, you need to download Killing Floor SDK.

You can download it by going to your library then switching from games to tools. SDK works pretty much like unreal editor so you can open any game file and edit stuff in it.

As for how to edit katana textures, you would have to open SDK then open: KF_Weapons2_Trip_T.utx.
This file contains katana textures and of other weapons. (If you're looking for other weapon to edit you would have to search for them in other texture files.)

In order to edit it, i guess you would have to extract texture from the file then edit it in Photoshop/GIMP, after that you would just replace your edited texture with the one in .utx file (Don't forget to backup the file, in case something goes wrong.)

You might also need DXTBmp in order to open .dds file (texture) but i'm not 100% sure, since it was long time when i fiddled around with it myself.

Don't do this, you will get mismatch errors.

Also don't use DXTBmp, if you have gimp they have a DDS plugin.

When you install that plugin, you can drag and drop dds files, then go to layers and transfer layer channel. That's how i been doing it for years but I think Photoshop makes the process much easier.

Yes i suppose that was error on my part, however it wouldn't hurt if Harry here would actually tell outright how to do it instead of just telling "don't do that."

This should help you with version mismatch.

Like i mentioned before, it was couple of years ago when i was last fiddling around with it.

Damn my bad chief, didn't know someone made a guide for something i had someone else do for me back in 2014. ♥♥♥♥ if I knew that guide existed, I wouldn't have made my metal slug mutator. This ♥♥♥♥ should have shown up sooner. But damn you right, my fault for not letting him know something i didn't know how to correct myself.

Legit I only knew 2 people who knew how to hex mods, the one who i collab with (Revenant100) was on the edge when I wanted him to teach me. He said he didn't want the info to get out due to security reasons (which in hindsight I could believe TWI would do something about it if they patched a similar modding method in KF2, RIP Zedek). After harassing him several times he did eventually told me but my dumbass never copied it to a notepad or something.
The other user was Half-Dead but he just kinda vanished from KF. You should have seen the ♥♥♥♥ that dude was gonna pump out with this type of modding.

As for helping OP, the best thing I knew was to use a weapon replacing mutator which there was no guide so I had to decompile a weapon mod pack just to show him. There is that reskin mutator (the same one i used for my metal slug mod) but that causes client pollution which sucks.

Anyways OP, I don't think the file size matters since 2 of the clientside mods i had done has various weapon retextures and another one used a larger image size then the original one.

Also thanks Reisen u ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, I was currently working and finishing up my long overdue list of character mods, but now with this guide I can double that work :Alberts:

Oh wow, i didn't expect this. I apologize for my rudeness, i assumed that you knew but didn't want to tell this poor fella, but looks like i was mistaken. It's good to hear that i managed to help somebody else with this too. Hell if i helped you out with this then make one mod for me too!

What do you want, some kind of gross anime weapon mod?!

Cause I had one laying around already! IDK when it will get done thou cause like I said, im now even more backup from years of being lazy.

Edit: Trying the hex mod to remove that annoying ass buzzsaw sound but seems to have removed the sound of the saw hitting the walls despite it actually playing in the SDK. I remember Revenant telling me about stuff getting messed up like this when i think he was working on my pony weapons (cringe i know).

Kidding, kidding.

However if you want really to do something for me then just contact me and i'm sure we will work something out.

Also don't worry about it. It will take as much time, as it will need, no need to force it out.
