Workshop Download Location?
Can anyone tell me where mods/maps sub'd in the workshop are downloaded to? I need to back them up because the workshop doesnt re-install them correctly when I re-install KF. I would think the KF install folder but nothing is there but vanilla & DLC content and i'm sub'd to quite a few mods.

...even if you back them up, you won't be able to open them to extract the contents....

why is that?

...because no such program exists; winrar, 7zip(and those two usually opens any compressed file I throw at it that are unrecognizable in windows) won't open or extract it and yes I've already tried...though once a upon a time I had googled for a similar thing and there was a tutorial of someone coding up a program to open up those cache files, it was only just the framework; you have to finish the rest off by yourself....and since I have no coding knowledge....you can imagine what happened next...hah...but this was a while ago - maybe the guy released a fully operatable program now?

Nowadays, I don't bother saving these workshop downloads unless they're already extracted and not in their lonesome cache file(unless the game auto extracts it in which case I suppose those cache files are of at least some value....but I don't think KF does that unless you're subscribed to that particular workshop that downloaded that cache file...) in which case I go hunting for those newly created files in the game's local folder....and back those up...

ah i see. well problem is that I am sub'd to a lot of mods and I guess they are all downloaded somewhere, but when I launch KF and wait to see the 'name of mod' 'downloading %' in the upper-right, well it never appears, for any of the mods. Nor are ANY of the muts/maps available in the mut/map sections in solo. Manually-installed mods are fine. Sadly, tracking a non-workshop DL link for each mod is difficult(and simply not possible for some mods). Any suggestions on getting KF/the workshop to install my sub'd mods properly? This way I can get all of them working -Then i'll just backup my entire install folder.

I heard if you are subbed to over 50 workshop items altogether, including from other games like TF2 and L4D, anything pass that 50 mark and those workshop items don't download....supposedly this is a limit that is *not* noted in the workshop help faq if there is one....

So if you have that many workshop subbed too, you might want to unsub them all until you are 50 or less including the KF ones you want...

Yeah, external/manual link is the way to go thanks to this workshop limitation....that's why as soon as I get the workshop item I want, I immediately unsub....and make a copy of the extracted files....unless the game's workshop only works IF you are subbed to workshop in which case you really have no choice but to keep the sub on for the duration of your interest to that game.....but I don't think there are any games that force you to sub to workshop just to have that mod work....

With KF, well you kinda have to go hunting for the files to know what they are that got downloaded because there's no dedicated mods folder like in some other games where you place them here(or they get placed here via workshop and then can just copy this folder and that's all your mods copied/backed up in one fell swoop! haha) and be done with it......but usually if they're extracted/installed correctly via workshop, will reside in any of these locations:

.\Steam\steamapps\common\KillingFloor\Animations
.\Steam\steamapps\common\KillingFloor\KarmaData
.\Steam\steamapps\common\KillingFloor\Maps
.\Steam\steamapps\common\KillingFloor\Movies
.\Steam\steamapps\common\KillingFloor\Music
.\Steam\steamapps\common\KillingFloor\Sounds
.\Steam\steamapps\common\KillingFloor\StaticMeshes
.\Steam\steamapps\common\KillingFloor\System
.\Steam\steamapps\common\KillingFloor\Textures

Ya, ive played with ut04's mods excessively so I got KF's mod files' locations down lol. That mod limit really sucks. No wonder my L4D2 workshop files don't function properly. Well, I know of Moddb, Gamebanana, gamemaps, but is there any major hub(s) for KF mods specifically? thx for the help thus far!

....not really, but I guess you can try the tripwire forums and hunt for them and hope the download links are still alive and valid.....

Well... crap. lol This is gonna be a task. I only refrained from using the workshop for Skyrim, but with such a HUGE flaw, i'm only going to use it for mods I can't get anywhere else(for all games). Thx so much for the help, bro.

Mmmmmmhmmmm....if you can read or and type in russian(google translate doesn't count because they seem to omit some words that gets translated and could have a translation meaning completely different to what it was supposed to be in its original language and that also includes grammar and spelling mistakes too but if ur just really desperate for mods I suppose it doesn't hurt but do take note of those things I said...), there's a russian killing floor forums you can also check out...they might have some other interesting stuff that tripwire forums does not...

I also believe there was someone trying to archive all mods for KF, but I don't have the link; I'll go look for it and edit this post(or put it on the next post if you posted after this), so you may find it useful... Do take note that those archive will just mainly contain the mods and no documentation so you will either need to figure how it works or google and hope the mod page for it is still alive...

Well do let me know if you find. I have just now gotten most of my non-workshop weapons from the mentioned russian site, and have cut off about 10 pages of subs to go, only 20 more lol. But ya, some I have to use alternative mods that function the same or may have to simply do without on a few because I can't find a working download on the workshop page, or through google.
Blehh..... Nov 8, 2017 @ 7:02pm
Oh....I could only find http://pliki.red.orchestra.pl/maps/killingfloor/download/ which is mainly an archival collection of maps....there was one with a collection of non map ones I had saved somewhere....I guess I must have deleted it after finding out the host no longer exists...the person who must have tried to host archival version of all the mods must have said "fek it im no longer insterested in kf so im just gonna shutdown dis ♥♥♥♥ and stop paying $1000 a month rent" or something like that....hahahaha Or it might have been "♥♥♥♥ I can't host any files because I'm all out of dosh! T_T" because hosting files other than from home can be quite expensive.....and even hosting from home, you have to bare more costs than just monetary..............

Oh well...gg I guess....

EDIT: ...and of course the forums censor my bad words even though they are used figuratively...

lol... well ty for looking. It's cool, ill ditch the excessive mods if I cant find their off-workshop DL links. Might take a day or two, but i'll get it done one way or another. Just cant wait 'till I move on to trying this with my L4D2 mods. Well over 40 pages of subs there lol. Thx again.

well had a breakthrough... clicking 'multiplayer', then 'refresh' on news and internet tabs, then returning to the main menu started downloading the remaining 13 pages of my mods that i'm su'b to. Ill report back tomorrow as to whether these mods are actually working in-game after all downloads complete. This is so wonky lol.

Update!

Okay, what I mentioned above really only works when your at about 30-40 mods on workshop. It's not worth it IMO, just use google to find any mods you need and abandon the workshop(at least for Killing Floor).

Also, got the vast majority of my mods from external sources(see below). Surprisingly only had to abandon a few weapons and backed up a few that managed to download in-game via the workshop. But here are the sites I found that you can get pretty much every mod listed on the workshop, save for a few broken links in forums:

http://killing-floor.ru/mutator/
https://gamekillers.ru/workshop/files/1250
http://killingfloor.ru/xforum/threads/igrovoj-kontent-ot-ultra-modding.3323/#entry107217
https://zombie-mod.ru/killing-floor/killing-floor-mutatory/

I recommend ServerPerks(as everthing requires it), Sentry/Engineer Perk/Weapon Pack, Bots Mutator & all the weapons you want.

Thx so much for the help, Boltte. Went from roughly 35 sub'd pages to not one single sub in the workshop lol. Like I said... onto L4D2, and I was wrong it was 53 pages of subs there.
