A review
ill be honest, im a bit in the middle on this game. Ive never played the older test drive games, so i cant compare it with those, hence, i will simply be rating it as a driving game, as ive played many different types.

Negatives:
Its always online. I despise games that dont need it as part of their gameplay, and it means that later down the line they can shut down the servers, and boom! no more game.

Performance: its not awful, but clearly needs optimisation as ive got very good hardware, and even i drop down below 30 FPS.

Physics: The suspension when going over bumps seems a little too jumpy, im not expecting total ignorance of curbs, like forza, but even going over speed-bumps at legal speed leads to what feels like a rough mountain biking.

Animations: The people are ROUGH. other car games are bad for this aswell, but the animations here are super unnatural, and really pull me out of the otherwise good looking experience. No full steering animations, what they have is rough and jerky, I hope that they add proper steering animations, similar to motorfest, especially considering the fact that they have blinkers and such available.

Walking: The walk speed is way too slow. I like the idea, but we really need either a proper sprint, or simply a faster walking speed.

Positives:

Graphics: The game looks great, not much else to say here.

Map design: So far, the map is literally perfect. Highways, cities, parking lots and gas stations. I havent thought of venturing off road yet, so i cant speak on how the off road segments of the map are designed.

Cars: So far, the car list is fun, the cars look great AND there are stock customisation options, including interior customisation. Alongside the other positives, the ability to use your blinkers, headlights, hazards AND windows, whilst clunky, is super impressive, and i wish more games like this gave us the ability to do that.

Physics: other than the strange suspension, the physics are fun. The cars handle pretty similar to forza, excluding how easy it is to lose traction.

Conclusions: I like the game. WIth better animations, and the extended car list id expect for a finished product its 100% a competitor with Forza Horizon. However, the fact that its always online and REQUIRES an account to play are huge negatives for me.

I hope most issues ive listed are fixed when the game is released, but it is a shame about it being always online.

Re walk speed. There is an option to run instead. Re character animation. Yeah bad. I actually think the character animation was better in TDU 2.

Re offroad. I reckon the dirt roads are a wee bit narrow so hard to pass and very easy to crash.

But yeah, the map is superb. A quantam leap better than Horizon 5.
