and that brings me to the question can i only play the full release if i have an internet connection?
The game also in the release version only starts online and you MUST allow Nacon to sell any data they can steal from you before the first start.
All of them require an account at what ever company selling it, and internet connection. Hence the name Massive Multiplayer Online
Also, why can't they just use your Steam ID? They absolutely use it to log you in. Nacon account is just a weird thing on top of it.
What is account? It's just a way to identify you, to distinguish between players. This can also be done by looking at your Steam ID. Not only it CAN be done, the game literally DOES that: it logs you in after looking at your Steam ID. That's why you don't need to type in your account name and password every time you start the game.
If they absolutely need an account for all their internal stuff to work, they could automatically create it for you without any information about you or typed by you, except a link to your Steam ID. If you later decide to log in to Nacon website it can identify you by your Steam ID and let you fill in other information. I think Destiny 2 does that.
