Perhaps the mods can lock this useless thread right away too before it turns into another 13 pages of arguments over nothing.
This isn't a TDU in the same way the first two games were, its missing a lot of those lifestyle elements like properties, casino, driving missions and so on.
There are a lot of issues as well, things like region and platform lock make it a poor online experience, and some things are plain broken like ranked.
A lot of people expected a true sequel to TDU2, which this just isn't. The marketing didn't help but even then the expectations and hype was way higher than it really should have been.
But to be honest, I still enjoy it despite its shortcomings, more enjoyable than Horizon or Motorfest personally. And if you aren't trying to compare it to the previous games or having great expectations, I think its pretty decent.
And it's slowly getting better as well, Season 3 update looks to be fixing and adding some nice things, there was one teaser regarding AI in races so maybe that is adjustable difficulty? Unsure really but stay tuned for the full reveal to really see what's coming.
Also this game doesn't look like an overall good game to me. I regularly scroll through reviews here on Steam and a lot of criticism is independent of the game's name. Even stuff like lack of missions, shops or other interactible locations is a criticism of the game's dead world, not just missing TDU1/2 features.
If it wasn't called TDU, it would've been received better, I agree, but would it be an 80% positive game? I think, not even close.
And yeah I agree with you that there is a lot of issues independent of the game's name. Luckily driving missions are already confirmed for season 3 so its slowly getting there.
For it to be really positively received, it had to be marketed as early access and not with the TDU name. We see with AC Evo that the early access tag alone has so much influence on people's perception of the game.
2) How much research are people obligated to do to have correct expectations? I think not much; correct expectations should start from the very beginning: game name, description, promotion texts, screenshots, videos. All of that should form the right picture of the game, including addressing the differences between previous games and the upcoming one, if there any significant ones. If the right expectations can only be formed after a deep dive into other people's gameplays of a demo, coupled with outright not believing official first party descriptions and promises, I cannot blame players that their expectations and the actual game ended up different.
Got a link?
2) I mean a simple look at what the game does have and doesn't have, whether that's through gameplay videos or even the promotional material should have been a warning that yeah this game has a lot of issues and to keep expectations low. I am not blaming the players per se, but I do think a lot of the hate is more from expectations with the TDU name that shouldn't have been as high as they were.
