Funny how games are experienced by different gamers. For me the game instantly made it to the top 3 worst racing games I ever played and definitely the worst in years. Hopefully you can enjoy it for a long time, but I'm afraid you are correct that this game will fail and be abandoned. For more than 60% of the buyers this already is a fail and the developers aren't in a hurry to fix issues people are having.
After all, NoManSky could :) There are even 2 options:
1. work on the game - fixing the game, adding content and turning the game into a service.
2. fix optimization, add an offline mode, and give people a tool for creating mods.
Unfortunately, both options are unlikely.
The game is 90% dead... I left the remaining 10% for the patch.
After the patch is released, we can make final conclusions about this game.
The patch will make it easy to understand how many resources are allocated and how wisely they are used.
From what I hear most of the devs at KT racing are ex employees of Eden games and worked on the original TDU's....
I mean, even if you look at the size of the studios, KT is bigger than Eden games and Eden games is still around too.
2) NMS offered something very unique which is why it was still an interesting concept even in its awful state. TDUSC is a soulless mish-mash of the same old stuff from other games (most of it not even from TDU1-2). It has some good stuff but it's not nearly enough to carry the game. Its only unique selling point is real sized HKI, so if you don't care about that island why would you play this game over others?
You're correct, but I would like to point out that the failure of TDUSC is not mainly caused by the competitions. It is because the developer refuse to recreate the beloved features of old TDUs, houses, shops, missions, "lifestyle" etc. Driving a Audi TDI SUV in some Hawaii mountain just to find that scenic photo spot for a mission was something unique, and many old fans still miss that experience. And we don't get that from a lot of games.
Imagine if the developer recreate all of the old TDU features, with a much more varied car list (supercars, performance cars, sedans, SUV, daily driver, family cars, classics, just give us 10 to 20 of each would be MUCH better than what we have now), with modern graphics, good wheel support and FFB (they've mostly done it right this time, MUCH better than TDU2 and most simcade out there), this game will be a success.
And if done right, HK Island is not a bad choice. For me, a local, this game just fail to capture the essence of different districts of HK Island IRL, so everywhere feels the same. For example Central is one of the busiest financial center in Asia or even the world, and also famous for its nightlife and bars and clubs etc, but in this game, nothing, just some empty streets with zero sign of life. The bland and very limited AI traffic doesn't help either.

Damn... its true. I dunno maybe that could be a good thing? Assets being shared?
At least this game looks interesting and offers something unique that no other game has.
