what's the word on linux compatibility?

i'm still wondering how sard anticheat is going to work on linux, will the game be playable through proton on day one? within a week? month? ever? will it at least run on the deck?

i've looked through here and on the discord and couldn't find a definitive answer, it's disappointing that there's almost no discussion about this

The answer for both is never. They're not going to support Linux and it will not run on the Steam Deck. The game needs quite the specs to run well and Steam Deck doesn't have that.

well it's pretty disappointing that in the feedback forum a while back there were people who were asking for linux compatibility, but they decided to choose an anticheat(for a racing game of all things) that doesn't work on it

if it does end up running through proton at some point then i'll give it a try, but until then, no tux no bux

They did choose an anticheat? Didn't know that, would love to be able to play on Linux.

yeah, and looking at sard's website it says it's kernel-based garbage that has no place on anybody's computer

i think i'll stick with tdu2 private servers

Running under Windows 11, the Steam Deck can run the game at a stable 30 at 1280x800, with low settings and FSR set to quality. A SteamOS port would also show FPS gains.

It's not that the deck can't run it, it's the fact they cba.

How would you know? You're just assuming that. I actually know some people, even in my family that only have a Steam Deck and no pc at all. The only thing they game on is the Steam Deck. Wouldn't surprise me when more people do that. I've been looking at one as a replacement for my gaming laptop, but decided to go back a console instead, since most games I actually play are on the console too and getting disc from older games cost next to nothing.

About 80% of my playtime is on linux, there has been no issue for most of the game's release, and they probably wont be implementing that anti cheat for a while, since we've seen it on steamdb for months.

Well, TDU SC runs on SteamDeck. Use the forum search function for previous more recent posts about this topic.

Even if it will run on proton you will need better hardware than on windows and that already is demanding for good quality and fps

It runs at the same fps on windows and linux. maybe 1fps difference.
