i dont think its a scam. Potential is there but they have many things to fix
What you need to ask yourself is if you have the pc to run this at high settings. If you can only run it at low it's really crap visually. If you can run it at medium, it looks like TDU2 or Forza Horizon 2 Xbox One. On high it looks acceptable, but nothing like the Crew Motorfest or Forza Horizon 4 & 5.
The game itself is not a scam, being online only is a scam, since there's actually no need for it at all. Wait with buying until most issues are gone... if the company doesn't go out of business before they're able to fix everything that's wrong with the game.
So, more serious;
The simcade feel is quiet good for me. Much better than FH and also better than NFS Heat, which i somewhat enjoyed with friends. Atmosphere is very nice, driving in rain etc. Cars feel heave enough, and i play with 20% Traction control, and no braking lines or gps whatsoever. Wehn driving straight ahead with 250km/h and touching the barricade, you will loose a lot of speed. You will need to brake properly before tight conering, and the power steering/drifting feels very solid for me, across the 3 cars i have driven. Audio on the cars are very good. I am playing with all sorts of music off. My buddy and i have been having problems entering races as the servers are under heavy load, but we have very much enjoyed crusing around together, finding wrecks, and POI's.
In truth i do feel a bit buthurt about essentially paying extra to be the developers testers. But putting that aside and judging the gameplay loop, etc and not how they have conducted themselves with this launch, i am going to get a lot on enjoyment out of it.
I have played a lot of GT7 on my PS5 of late, and imo is the best racing game out there for filthy casuals like me. This is not in that ballpark at all, but imo it delivers a very different setting, with the open world and mmo feel. Personally i have yet to try a game that does this as good as TDU.
But that was just my 10 cents, about pure gameplay and nothing else.
It's a perfectly serviceable racing game with massive server issues, the driving and races are fun but very challenging - there's no hand-holding period so you better be good at racing games. The map is extremely detailed and varied - with almost no invisible walls so you can go just about anywhere on it. It's an absolute blast to just drive around in freeroam as there's a lot to see. Progressions decent, and it takes a while to get vehicles, making every purchase of a vehicle matter. The story is atleast given some thought (can't say that for many racing games now). And unlike most people in the steam forums, I've actually gotten far enough into the game to actually have a say on what it is really like. The Dirt racing is really fun, but they seem to only think that SUVs are acceptable vehicles for the offroad events which I find a little odd - Maybe i'm not far enough in for it to open up more.
It's a solid 7 or 8/10 game that's struggling immensely with server issues atm so everyone's quick to shut down any praise the game gets for actually being a racing game that is atleast decent from within the last few years.
It could really do with an offline/hybrid mode though, and some tweaks to it's borderline insane AI.
How is this Steam's fault?
I had some wierd issues at first launch where the game said i was using 14gb og memory. After altering my settings and rebooting the game it went to look more normal at 7.5gb vram usage and 50-70 fps in all situations.
stock 4070, I7-13700k, 32gb ram.
You keep contradicting yourself. The game can't be excellent if people can't connect to the servers, as they are an important part of an always online game.
