No Offline = No Buy
The Crew Server Shutdown (game is now unplayable) made me realize I have to stop buying those full-online games!

google say:
"An Internet connection is therefore required to play Test Drive Unlimited: Solar Crown.” While it's not a massive surprise for a heavily online-centric experience like this, it does mean you'll be at the mercy of Nacon's servers – and PSN to boot!"
(when you search "test drive unlimited solar crown offline")

Nothing official (of course, they don't want to hurt their sales) but it's pretty sure.

It is official. This phrase was taken directly from Newsletter #7: "An Internet connection is therefore required to play Test Drive Unlimited: Solar Crown."

I had assumed this was would be playable as a single player game like the older titles in the series were. Now I find out today it's an always-online, multiplayer-only, microtransaction and battle-pass infested live-service waste of money.
I've had it on my wish list since it was announced but I've removed it now. Apparently Nacon haven't got the message that live service market is saturated and that designing your game around FOMO and planned obsolescence is an active turn off to customers.

Exactly. I recently read in an article that they are aware of the problem. They ‘supposedly’ don't want the story of The Crew to repeat itself. They're talking about finding some kind of solution for the end of the game's life, but they don't know how yet because they plan to support the game for 10 years. It all sounds far too vague to me. They also said that you can reach ‘max level’ by playing alone. Also a much too vague statement.
my question is why label it single player https://prnt.sc/then6kjwA-_J if there is no offline mode? Everything suggests an offline mode via the store page

Guess I'm gonna start the refund process and report the page for misleading product if this is truly the case. :')

"The same was confirmed by Nacon in a recently sent out press release accompanying the game’s recent gameplay trailer. Caught by Push Square, Nacon states in the press release that owing to the game’s many social features and the way they’re baking into the design, it won’t be playable offline." via https://gamingbolt.com/test-drive-unlimited-solar-crown-will-require-a-persistent-internet-connection#:~:text=The%20same%20was%20confirmed%20by,won%27t%20be%20playable%20offline

Refund sent & report sent. Hopefully the store page will be fixed. I'm never preordering again.

It's quite confusing, yeah, but "Single player" tag on Steam does not mean you can play it offline. It probably means something like "you can play this game alone without necessary teaming-up with other players".

I'd be really surprised if Steam forces the devs to remove the tag, because there are other always-online games and even pure MMOs that have this tag.

This made me actually sad. I was really hyped for the game but thats a mood killer
I don't buy games with expiration dates. While it's more understandable if it's an entirely multiplayer game, if a game can be played solo, it should be playable offline.

When I see "Singleplayer" the FIRST things I think of is "offline mode, no multiplayer, no pvp, no dealing with other humans"

Not "oooh I can play this game ALONE WHILE I'M CONSTANTLY CONNECTED TO THE INTERNET! PERFECT!" /s

If I wanted to play online, then I'll play an MMORPG or a multiplayer title.

It'll be a damn shame if they don't remove the singleplayer title. Especially because SINGLEPLAYER and MMORPGS literally can not exist unless they have an offline version of the game.

Multiplayer
Massively
Online
Role
Playing
Game

encase you or anyone else is wondering what an MMORPG stands for or what MMO stands for to begin with.

It literally can not be a Massively Multiplayer Online game AND a singleplayer game without having an offline version. It's quite literally impossible. I should know, I'm a MMORPG vet. The only one that I know of that does this ♥♥♥♥ is Shroud of the Avatar.

Until we get more information about it, In my eyes, that ♥♥♥♥ is false advertising at its finest.

And that's not even getting into the other issues I have with the game.

they official survey that popped up after the end of the demo was asking how much of an issue is Always Online for "you"

clearly they are aware of the backlash to always online and i hope enough people who took the survey categorized it as a major issue that needs to change

They should probably rename the current "Single player" tag to something like "Solo play" and then add a true "Single player" tag that means what you said.

I agree. Especially with such an uncertain candidate as TDU. Let's be honest, the rough edges of every TDU game were only for real fans.

Every TDU game was only made good by mods and, after countless patches, also unofficial ones by modders. Which means that this game has potential, but only if it gets massive, long-lasting support thanks to the modding scene.

But if it has an online requirement, it will die the moment the developers realize that the project is no longer worthwhile. I am also generally against online requirements if they don't have to be there and here there is no single reason for an online requirement.

Of course the developers will come up with half-baked excuses again, which everyone, including the developers, knows are just excuses, but sorry. In that case, I won't buy it at all or only for a handful of euros. The price will fall pretty quickly anyway.

Plus its Nacoon which means Micro Stutter.
