My opinions on the Demo so far
Of course, these are the opinions on the Demo. My opinions on the final product is another thing xD

- Taishi Zhao is a precious boi, Xiang is a cinnamon roll and Hong is bae. Must protect!!!

- Character design is sadly not as colorful as Firmament. I get they want a more "realistic" and "gritty" design. But I really miss the old vibrant and colorful design. I guess this would be my biggest sad moment because I really like games with vibrant and fantastical colors instead of just "realistic". Maybe we will get to be somewhere colorful and fantasy-like.

- Pretty good graphic vs Firmament (well, duh!) but probably "lackluster" with more modern games (I don't care for this much tbh. But some graphic enthusiasts might shrug at this game ;_;)

- I guess combat is very Sekiro-like? But definitely more forgiving (at least in normal mode). If I would compare to Gujian 3 which came out most recently, XY7 combat feel must slower and more stam management (maybe when you become super OP the combat will be way faster)

- I notice how the boss' music change with boss HP to create that cool tension.

- No more save whenever you want like Firmament ;_; Instead, we got Shrine and Bonfire (and Autosave).

- There are some dialog choices. Not sure if it will impact the story in the final game. But the choices in the Demo is about making the story MC told his sister as fun or ridiculous as possible (to cheer her up).

- The random QTE is... weird... Like when you carry MC's sister to the room, you have to click RB+B to put her down? Like the game literally, stop until you click RB+B

I think that's about it. I'm still very looking forwards to the final game. I feel like the Demo was barely 5% of the game (if the main story is just as long as Firmament) :Ziqiao:

I agree with just about everything, my only main issue is the unnecessary QTEs and press foward moments that kinda brings the flow down. Also hope for no online only saves.

Combat sure is floaty, reminds me of Witcher 3.

I try to use martial skill on enemy but hit a wall instead. Tells me to execute enemy by hitting F button but nothing happens.

Graphics and textures, VA, story, combat is responsive IMO. One thing that bothers me alot is the small range of tessellation on the ground. It is very distracting seeing it form infront of me.

Yes, The unnecessary QTE "Press B" have to go. They made no sense.

But in general, gameplay itself felt good. I was playing with a gamepad. The second configuration workked for me. Couldn't get the hang on the first one.

I think this demo has sold them a copy of the game. I am interested in it. To play more of it.

I hope there's an option to delete some of the autosaves at some point, or it's gonna take up most of my HDD! Lol. Also they need to do a balance pass on some of the English for some of the convo options, but it isn't nearly as bad as it could have been lol

personally I think the climbing and dropping animation from ledges part is not fluent at all, the character pause too much after hitting the button
The first Assassin's Creed have better climbing mechanics than XY7

P.S. I started playing the series since XY3

My opinion is that sadly I gave up on the demo before I could reach any meaningful gameplay, let me skip the cutscenes you don't have an eternity to convince me and the demo wasted too much time. The story of the little boy who's village was raided and his parents killed so he has to take care of his little sister has been done so much by now I saw it coming a mile away.
I feel it's a poorly made demo in terms of structure, it should try to hook you in quicker. My 2 cents.

Actually, I think transforming the game into a soul like game does cost some traditional game experience, like the old magical treasure system, which is super fun in the battle. Anyway, it was the new generation of players that want to have a more "action" XYS, may be I am just old enough to have the paranoid nostalgia.

The QTE thing feels like it belongs to mobile phones instead of PC. For example when the fire wolf thing jumps you, there is such a huge window to tap the key that it really did not feel threatening. To move forward and use B is annoying when it takes control from you. I know that I can't waste my time with my nearly dead sister. I can't use any flashy moves with her in my arms anyway. Why would I delay it? When I reach the goal, just drop her on the ground automaticaly without any prompts. It is 2020 let us skip dialogues.

I personally am a big fan of the cutscenes and fell in love with Xuan Yuan Sword for its insanely story heavy. HOWEVER, I would really like to have a skip button as you said. Simply because when I fail a boss, I'm kinda forced to sit through a (somewhat small) cutscene. It's fine now but I can't imagine having to sit through 5min long cutscene just to fight a boss again in the final game.

Also, since it's barely the beginning of the game, I will look forward to seeing how our MC and his gang evolves. I truly believe there is no original story but that is fine. Sure the start might be a bit cliche but if the story improves itself then I'm more than happy. Hell, my favorite The Gate of Firmament started so damn slow and rather cliche (some random mysterious girl fell from the sky) but by the end, I love it so much (ofc, my taste is different than yours).

Ikr? Like I'm holding my half-dead sister but STOP, gotta click 2 buttons simultaneously first before I can put her down. I could just stand there forever and let her die from blood loss if I don't do the QTE xD Just... why?
cniudae Oct 8, 2020 @ 4:06pm
you realise you don't put her down but, use a skill rigth ?

Yes, I did notice that. But I would argue the QTE is right when you just stand there, and after you do the QTE, you put her down. AND THEN you use your teleportation skill. If they want to make it that he was using the skill, they should have let the cutscene stop AFTER you put her down. The QTE design is so misleading and stops the flow of the cutscene.

Exactly my problem with the demo.
