Upgrading Fishing

So... I've played for a while, well into year 2 and I have yet to get anything to upgrade fishing. It's one of the few things I haven't finished on the pyramid.

Now, I'll be frank... I hate fishing in this game. Just... nah. I've caught around 10-15 varieties to try to trigger the idea to happen, but nothing... Any help?

Odd, I don't know what I did to trigger it, but by mid summer year one I got the harpoon. Inza had the idea, said something about not wanting to bend down to fish anymore. I just woke up and it was there in the journal. You caught more variety then I did at that point, so that can't be it. Friendship level maybe? I had almost everyone at about 2 flowers by that point. Can't think of another trigger, you certainly had much more of the game done then I did.

Don't know if that helps you at all, probably not :P Just thought I would tell ya what little I know.

i saw some guide that you need to catch 40 fish and harvest hardwood for it to trigger

I just got it to trigger at exactly 18 varieties of fish, first year, spring the 24th.

I've done it before too, in Summer year one, and I'm pretty sure now it's not 40 fish but 18 different types.

I haven't seen the idea for harpoons yet, but if you fish, it becomes easier to fish. Some of the starting area 3 bar fish have dropped to 2 bars.

I wish we could use fish traps or something, the only thing I don't like in this game is fishing lol
