I use the top field to build my craftables--things like Storage Sheds, drying station, smoking station, etc.), and also planting trees, and place some decors.
The bottom field has a lot more tiles (about 1900. I lost count after 1841 due to the odd shape at the bottom). You have a lot more space to place large barns there. I recommend using the top portion of the bottom field to place and upgrade to Large Animal Sheds (6x5 tiles), and the remaining field used for crops. The top portion, you can easily fit at least 9 Large Animal Sheds, a Breeding Pen, and Granary, but it's up to you how you want to design your ranching area.
There will be a bonus additional field in late game, but I'll leave this for you to find out on your own, but if you want to know, the Wiki has a spoiler.[rootsofpacha.wiki.gg]
