Animal riding Speed?

So Iam curious what effects the riding speed of Animals. Does it just depend on the animal type? If so, whats the fastest animal? Does relationship effect the riding speed? Do animals I breed have faster riding speed in the second or third generation? Or must I simply do the competetive racing on every second saturday to gain more riding speed?

Yes I would like to know this as well, the "base speed" stat makes me wonder if it's a stat tied to the animal at birth. I've found animals with varying stat of produce and quality but never found one with speed higher than one.

I've actually found animals with two speed! It seems more or less random when you attempt to tame them from what I've noticed. All three boars I have? 1 speed. Two ibex? 1 speed. One of my three ibex had 2 and my ostrich is at 2 as well.

Working on the whole breeding thing so that's a bit slow at the moment.

Oh damn, then it seems you have to tame and release every animal you find, since you can only check stats once invite it to your barn, IIRC.

It seems I'll be spending my days at the savannah playing flute to baby ostriches until I get one with max speed. T_T

You can at some point breed animals and they get a random increase in one of their traits. So it is probably possible, to raise an animal with 5 speed.

I don't think you can tame an animal with a speed over 2. I think you can only get the really high stats with breeding.
