I'd say people are saying such things because it's hard to find a game that appeals to such a wide audience as stardew. So nothing they liked has been seen in years.
That said, I didn't really need another game in the same genre when I had those.
For me, Sun Haven was a disappointment, even after trying to get into it for +100 hours. Not something I'd replay in the future (like I do with SDV) but just a few hours into this game and I'm loving it. I know for sure it'd be a replay in the future, so I'm going to say so in the reviews.
2. Only saw one review with the competitor statement.
3. Who cares as long as we are getting good games.
I bought Sun Haven but sadly had to refund as it ran terribly on my Steam Deck and the font was too small to easily read.
Roots of Pacha runs great on the Deck and I can read the text, win win.
No one looks at early release like early release, especially with these kinds of games. They look at them like companies that ran out of money to make their game so they are releasing it in a horrible """alpha""" state at half price. The people that genuinely care about the games will buy it, get disillusioned and move on. VERY FEW people come back for the full release.
Roots of Pacha is releasing as a complete game, that's why the price is "so high" compared to early release games.
To try and answer your question.......Too many games in this "niche" category have ridden SDV's coattails coming out in EA and never getting finished. It has created a weird dynamic and a huge loss of trust between game devs and consumers. Sun Haven hit its peak before it was done. The devs took too long to implement controller support which had a lot of people just walk away and get distracted by other things... By the time it was "released" it had lost a lot of its momentum. Maybe it will make a come back if it goes to consoles... but last I checked, they were still having difficulty with porting pc controls to a gamepad (which got them a bit of rep for not knowing what they were doing)... they could have have just copied 1996's original Harvest Moon's control scheme - the one that is still primarily used today - but they didn't - and are still struggling with it. Lastly, consumers are incredibly fickle - when I see anything saying "this is the new Stardew Valley!" I ignore it. If a game looks like something you might like, play it, and enjoy yourself.... =)
Sun haven is very diffrent. Not comparable. Also extreem buggy and not polished.
This game is diffrent from both of them. I really love it, only the time runs too fast. So i quited.
I don't feel Sun Haven is a good comparison. It's not a Stardew Valley-ish game in my opinion; It has similar graphics, it has farming, and I feel like the comparison ends there.
For reference, 600+ hours in Stardew, 19 hours in Sun Haven, 11 hours in Pacha so far.
Roots of Pacha hits same notes, feels goods and just hits the right notes. Also it happens to be in one of my fixations time periods, so it is even better.
Sun Haven was on list for a while, but after testing it and seeing how it works.. Just. Not. Refunded it, since it just didn't feel right.
People have different likes. But saying Sun Haven is competitor for Stardew valley? Only in really small community.
People will compare any life sim to stardew valley even if the base premise is not the same. I've seen people comparing my time in portia and Harvestella to stardew valley and they aren't even remotely similar.
