I did. He only have normail seeds

He has tabs, one for regular seeds and one for trees. If it isn't there, I'm not sure what you have to do to get it but all I've done is raise his hearts to 2 or 3. Pretty sure there wasn't an idea or building involved.

The same place you buy seeds from gramps, look around the UI, there is a second tab there full of seeds .. other shops is the same way, its kinda annoying how hard it is to see :P

You have to plant the saplings in a bare spot, DON'T TILL, and it needs to be a bit away from any other trees. Has to be in a field, of course.

Why is he seemingly the ONLY vendor with an extra tab. This is really poor design decision, especially when there are so many other villagers to choose from...
I (embarrassingly) got to the Bear Totem and after multiple times gathering pine cones to level up pine trees, I finally got frustrated and had to Google this comment.
Absolutely zero of the tutorials assist with this. Perhaps grandpa mentions he sells them, but honestly, all the talking and friendship stuff is my least favorite part of these games.

He aint the only vendor. The decorations vendor also has several tabs, that I was completely oblivious to, untill I needed to buy pots for a quest and had to google where to find them!, but yes I also had to google where to get fruit trees, which landed me here, and once again to my surprise, an NPC sells the seeds, from a second tab! Frustrating when the tabs are so small, that you dont even notice them.
By now Im almost certain there are more vendors out there with other tabs that I still havent seen.

i wouldn't get too excited over trees they seem underwhelming to me, 28 days and my 8 mango trees produced 1 crop of 8 fruit(1 per tree)

@Matty if your lvl get up with the tree they will produce more :)

Thank you. Planting trees was my final prophecy. Bought seeds dozens of times from him and never noticed that bloody tab!

And here I was periodically deforesting every wild fruit tree thinking they'd eventually drop a sapling. grrrr...
