Controller not working?

Im on Mac and I have no issue connecting my controller to steam however I can't seem to get it to work in game. It's working for other games.

Tried PS4 dualshock and also my nintendo switch joycons. Anyone able to help?

I wanted to let you know that we're still investigating the issue. We haven't been able to reproduce it on Win 10/11 with Xbox or PS4/5 controllers, but we're still trying. In any case, we'll be adding a way to manually list and select a controller through the game itself instead of depending on auto-detect. This update should come sometime next week.

One potential fix that is Steam sided and only happens with some games - make sure the controller is on and detected by Steam -BEFORE- you launch the game. No idea if that will help, and you may have already tested that without even realizing it, but it's something to try. :)

That's odd, I'm using an 8BitDo (Sn30 Pro2) with no issues. See my above comment for how I get it to work.

Thanks for the tip! Hope this works for some people. I have tried this myself though and not a fix :( I think its a game issue rather than a steam one, Devs have said they will add a way to manually select controller in-game so hoping that this fixes the issue!!

Still not working with the update :( Cant see anything in game either. Works fine for other steam games

We had this issue (Xbox controller on steam deck) and found that the 2nd controller in the controller order is the one that the game is detecting. If no wireless controller is connected, it works fine handheld, but if one is, then we have to go to the order and move the wireless controller to number 2, then it works. Switch to handheld, have to move the steam deck controls to number 2.

I have another game I play where the controller is prone to not working or behaving oddly. Mostly happens if it's a new controller or new computer.

I don't know why but it's always worked, so it's worth a try for those having issues.

What helped for me was connecting/turning on the controller, then tabbing out and back into the game. The controller would then start to work as expected.

I am new to the game and am playing on a Mac, I have wireless X-box controller and it will not content to the game. It recognizes before I open the game but once I start to play it does not.

Bumping this thread to say that I hit this issue as well, but the resolution was to _disable_ Steam Input mapping. It seems the game is doing its own controller-detection and it doesn't detect Steam controllers.

I really wish developers would prepare their games for working with the Steam Input API, since it makes it way easier to support more controller brands than base input-handling systems like SDL/SFML/GLFW/etc handle.
