Explanation about single player content
I noticed that there's a lot of confusion and misinformation so I thought it would be helpful to break it down, so people know what to expect. This is, unfortunately, one of those situations where its VERY clear what's going on in Japan because they get more marketing and dev interviews than we do, while we just gotta figure it out for ourselves.

So anyway.

According my research, the game has always been labeled as a PvPvE extraction shooter since its original announcement in September 2022. People like to speculate that this was originally going to be single player only but as far as I can tell, there's nothing to actually back that up other than wishful thinking.

I did find some verified information about single player straight from dev interviews however. They did a couple of Japanese only interviews explaining what the game is and why they're making it the way they are.

They say that they the online aspect of this game is the big selling point and the main game. However, they added a single player mode so that, even if the game fails and the servers shut down, players still have a game they can play. They stress that the multiplayer aspects are the main point though. You can't even start the single player stuff until you make enough progress in multiplayer (although obviously they'd change that if the servers die)

https://www.famitsu.com/article/202412/27096
https://www.gamer.ne.jp/news/202412120001/

The devs insist heavily that they really want the game to be online and the single player stuff is a "future proofing" element in case the servers shut down. It's clear that the main point of the game is multiplayer PvPvE extraction gameplay.

The single player content is going to be focused on exploring what the hell happened to the old city of Amasia and explore the world of Synduality a little more. For those that don't know, Synduality is a multi media project by Bandai Namco. They made an anime first (it got two seasons), a manga, and a light novel, with another light novel coming out soon. And of course, this game.

For those of you that dislike the whole PvP extraction part of the game, the devs have confirmed that you can't lose your items or cradle when you die in single player. It just stops becoming a PvP extraction game and becomes a mecha game, in my opinion. It's also been confirmed that single player will not give you any additional gear for the multiplayer part of the game, so you're not going to run into people who rushed to the final boss and are swinging around Super God Killer Blade or whatever. Items and gear you get in single player is exclusively for single player.

In single player, you select missions rather than roam the map freely like in PvP. You are also given pre-selected Coffins so you don't need to grind in PvP to get better gear or anything. That being said, you can pick up better gear while playing. Again, this is just for use in single player. You're expected to scavenge for better gear as well as spare ammo and supplies. Single player is almost a separate game within the online PvPvE extraction main game. It even has its own separate maps.

I should note that the single player content is added seasonally and the devs are considering adding more single player content once the Old Amasia storyline is finished. Half of the Old Amasia stuff will be available at launch, and the second half will be added later.

The game is clearly intending to have lots of references to the anime (it has the same music, the pre-order bonus is the same Coffin the protagonist Kanata uses, one of the deluxe version bonuses is to get a Magus like Noir who is the magus Kanata uses in the anime, etc etc etc). The game serves as an expansion of the world for fans who are already into the Synduality series as well as an entry point for people to get introduced to Synduality. The devs explicitly state that while you'd enjoy the game more if you're familiar with the anime (Synduality Noir) its accessible and enjoyable for people completely new to the franchise. The game is set 20 years after the anime so there's some links and callbacks, but the game is distinct enough that you won't lose anything if you haven't seen the anime or decide to watch it later.

Anyway, hope that helps clear things up for everyone!

Personally, I am mostly interested in seeing the story.
The network test was alright, I don't really care for PvP.

Hearing that only half the story will be present to start with is not filling me with confidence....

It's supposed to be primarily a live service game after all. I imagine its done this way to try to encourage people to keep playing the multiplayer while waiting for more single player content.

I'd assume they're hoping single player gives players the confidence to try the PvPvE stuff more seriously. And its important to note that its not exactly forced PVP either. You don't fight every person you see after all, and in fact the devs said there wasn't that much PVP activity in one of the interviews.
So, any similar game like this but PvE/Offline? Thanks xd

Just play Amored Cored 6. Its PvE, its offline, theres no forced PvP. IDK why every post for this game asks this when AC6 should be the first game you see when u search mech on steam.

So othe TLDR; version is:
"since you dont like that they choose to make it PvPvE online only and they have no intention to make it PvE as an option too, all that is left is TO NOT BUY THE GAME and wait till it fails by not having anybody online for the PvPvE crap, so we can finally get at least the Single Player PvE experience. Thanks for your research!

So instead of adding a PVE option and the single player story too from the getgo, they decide to give us the SP story mode ONLY after they fail?

Its like begging for it to fail even more/faster than its already gonna do lol

Guess nothing has been learned from Exoprimal at launch....

No, you get the PVE at launch. You just need to do the bare minimum of the multiplayer stuff first. I assume you just need to go a little further than getting your base operational, which if you played the open network test isn't that long at all. You're basically complaining you have to do a tutorial before you get to play the real game.

You can just play the single player part of the game if it bothers you that much. You just need to unlock it first, and it doesn't seem that hard. It's not asking you to get a 100-kill streak in PVP or anything. If you played the open network test, you'll recall that all of the tutorial stuff was in the PVP part of the game and a lot of features had to be unlocked by upgrading your base. Just do that, its not a big deal.

You'll be doing it in the newbie zone anyway, I didn't get ANY PVP in the North zone.

It sounds like you don't want to play this game at all. Like it sounds like you just want to play Armored Core 6 but you don't want to admit it. Because its too mainstream or something?

Like, people are forgetting this is a game based off an anime series. If you like Synduality the game makes sense and it'll be fine. You're basically playing the latest Sword Art Online game (also published by Bandai) and going "MAN WHY DO I HAVE TO PLAY AS KIRITO?"

I don't know. Maybe you're being too optimistic?

To back up your argument, it's only possible if it's completely flawless in this game.

For example, it would be possible if there were no hacks, cheating, and server delays.

Even gamers who play PVPVE suffered a lot from hacks, cheating, and server delays and actually went off to play other games.

Of course, anti-cheats exist, but they're not perfect. There are actually so many cases of detours!

That's why I'm asking you to give me a PVE with PVP and player kills completely removed because there are gamers who have suffered and stressed by hack, cheat and server delays.
Because they are tired of cheating and server delays.

So even though it's a constant request from gamers to developers, is it worth living because the developer speaks vaguely without being explicitly informed? There are many gamers who are hesitant about paying.

Of course you can say that you only need to play single,

You should know that there are gamers who want PVEs to be collected comfortably without getting any damage from player attacks.

Armored Core considered mainstream....

What a time to be alive.

I mean, yeah? It won Best Action Game at last year's Game Awards. According to steamdb its still #84 in the top sellers list despite coming out in August 2023. SteamSpy estimates the number of owners as around 2,540,000 players. It's not a niche game no one's heard of. It's highly recognised by both critics and players alike. As far as mecha games go, yeah Armored Core 6 is probably as mainstream as you can get. I know there's some mecha fans who really care about the genre remaining niche and don't care about stuff like Gundam Witch From Mercury or AC6, aka the popular ones, because they're popular and therefore "uncool" for whatever reason.

It's just wild having grown up with the series and it always being a niche thing.
It's great it's doing well.

We're in a new renaissance of the mecha genre.

Because AC6 mech designs are trash?

With its heavily westernized art style, I'm not surprised. Big, clunky, lumbering heaps of iron, not the sleek, fast, agile, gorgeous mechs you'd find in Gundam or any other "niche" title with a more Japanese/Anime aesthetic.
