Feels like the game is kind of a bit..passive.

Currently my gameplay trials looks like this: wonder around in dark, barely can see, find keys by accident, then escape the floor. Then usually I'll do the same things for about a floor or 2 till i Die. Yet, through this alone I still end up making progress . Yet, it does not feel satisfying. It also does not leave much time for features like the "potion system" to shine. DId I maybe turn on an option I should not have?

It's a roguelike, knowledge is power, you'll learn more as you find things and die. Notes give some tips and the map is very useful, just keep going it's basically trial and error.

I'm having a much more active experience swapping between 2 different upgraded guns and blasting everything that moves. If the game is too dark, your only choice is adjusting your monitor / tv settings unfortunately. I had to and it does help a bit.

@OP Overall I've had the opposite experience. Sure I've had keys spawn near the elevator but this game rewards active play through stat and item management. The early levels can be played passively depending on RNG. But I have survived many floors through active play. If I want to survive I need to quickly make risky decisions. This game does risk vs. reward really well. In my experience it does it better than most other games.

it does have a potion system, the items you can eat, also the random effects that can be applied to living weapons
There's a *lot* of randomness to this game, so there will be many times where you can breeze through a level, but also a lot of levels that will be large, challenging and complex, especially when you get deep into the Gut

although, I do think that the game needs more effects on the items/weapons! I have only been playing a few hours and I have already seen all of them, however it is an early access game still so
