Troubleshooting Steps to Improve Performance
Here are some things you can try to get it working as best as possible:
1. Force the Game to Use DirectX 11 Instead of 12
Some games default to DirectX 12, which can cause rendering issues on integrated GPUs.
Try launching the game with DirectX 11:
Open Steam.
Go to Library > Right-click the game > Properties.
In the Launch Options section, type:
-force-d3d11
Close and restart the game.
2. Lower Graphics Settings (Beyond Normal In-Game Options)
Set everything to Low or Very Low in the graphics settings.
Disable shadows, anti-aliasing, and bloom effects.
Try running at 1280x720 resolution instead of full 1080p.
3. Increase Shared VRAM (If Possible)
The Intel Iris Xe uses shared memory from system RAM. Your Asus Vivobook should already allocate dynamically, but you can try increasing the shared memory in the BIOS:
Restart your laptop and enter the BIOS (usually pressing F2 or DEL during startup).
Look for "Advanced" or "Chipset" settings.
If there's an option for "DVMT Pre-Allocated Memory", set it to the highest available value (often 512MB or 1024MB).
4. Try Older Graphics Drivers
Sometimes, newer Intel drivers break compatibility with certain games.
Test with an older stable driver (try rolling back to one from mid-2023).
Download from Intel’s official driver archive and test different versions.
5. Check for Any Available Game Patches or Fixes
If others have reported similar issues, there might be a community patch or workaround.
Check Steam Discussions or Reddit for the game—sometimes, others have found fixes for integrated GPU users.
6. Disable Intel Xe’s “Power-Saving” Mode
Intel’s drivers sometimes prioritize battery life over performance.
Open Intel Graphics Command Center (or Intel Arc Control if it's installed).
Go to Graphics Settings > Disable Power Saving Features.
Set the GPU to Performance Mode.
If None of This Works...
If nothing helps, it may just be that the game isn’t fully compatible with Intel Iris Xe. Some games simply require a dedicated GPU, even if the rest of the system meets the requirements.
However, if your son is open to alternatives, some less demanding dinosaur or park management games might work better on the Intel Iris Xe (e.g., Parkasaurus or Prehistoric Kingdom). Otherwise, GeForce NOW (a cloud gaming service) might be a way to play the game smoothly without upgrading hardware.
