Option 1: Build the new enclosure and then move the dinos. Usually the safest option unless you're out of room. Once the dinos are moved, you can also upgrade the fence on the now empty enclosure.
Option 2: Have a capture team tranq all the dinos, then upgrade the fence while they are sleeping. If the dinos are tranq'd, you don't get a hit to your safety rating.
in fact, if the dino needs a lot of open space, get rid of fences, just use rocks. the area just outside the rock is also counted towards the dino's open space comfort.
best thing about rocks = it can't get damaged.
the dinos can't break them.
the storms can't break them.
the dinos counts the area beyond the rocks towards its comfort - good if no cohabitation issues (e.g. it's shops).. bad if there's cohabitation issues (e.g. disliked dino)
oh yea, and since we're on the topic of the time it takes to replace/build fences:
rocks are basically immediately installed, no time required for building rocks.
Conclusion: I recommend placing rocks as a double fence to your usual fence. So your rocks will ensure your dino never runs out while your fence acts as an area limiter (no cohabiting issues esp if a lot of carnivores are placed together).
when u place the rocks, make sure they are close together. i tend to use large rocks consecutively together. if there are gaps in between due to their shapes, i fill it with smaller rocks.
so if you did it right and there are no gaps for the dinos, safety rating = 100%. dinos are no threat.
if you did it halfway and there are gaps, safety rating goes down. dinos are a threat. there will be a warning sign.
the game might need a few seconds to assess (after placing rocks and removing fences)
and yes it is very likely you`ll get "danger to your guests" signal and a low security rating when doing it that way, even if your dinosaurs stay in the encloser.
You just need to select Enclosures, select fences and under the fences selection ou can navigate with the left and right arrows saying "Replace OFF" and choose "Replace ON".
