JWE 2 is quite the opposite. It focuses on dino behavior and how to keep them satisfied and locked up, while park management and design falls a bit short.
Which one is better? At the moment I would clearly say JWE 2 is superior (even one of the PK devs admitted this)
To really compare them we should wait until pk fully releases in a few years.
Personally I think I will enjoy PK more than JWE2 in the long run.
I also like the action focus of the JWEs and how they tend to keep you on your toes, sometimes stress you out.
Of course I will be buying PK, too.
That's why I only do sandbox with these types of games. I don't need the stress when relaxing. But it's good to see we have options.
That's what I have done :P
I enjoy both for what they are.
2022 is going to be the year of the dinosaur.
2. Even if Frontier only cared about the Planet games after the next JW movie, that only means they are gonna publish DLCs to drain a bit more money out of it. And while I still miss content in PZ, JWE 2 is good as it is.
3. When it comes down to it, PK is only another common park manager. Like Planet Zoo, the Zoo Tycoons, Wildlife Park 1-3, Zoo Constructor, Megaquarium, Parkasaurus (the last one is more unique, though), and some others, only with dinosaus. Wildlife Park 2 and Parkasaurus have dinosaurs as well. And they won't be the last.
The JWE games on the other hand have a more unique concept, the focus on action and detailed animal behavior is rare.
The only games that come close to this, are some of the old impressions games, most notably Zeus and Emperor, with gods and monsters roaming your cities. Maybe JPOG (never played it tho)
As to saying JWE games having a unique concept, I have to disagree on that point. It's also another parkbuilder (light) copying the core design from others before it like JPOG. The animal behaviour in the JWE games never impressed me enough to see them as unique.
You say it is a light park builder and if you only look at the standard park builder concept, you are right.
But then again, take the management. In every other park builder, you would manage using tables and schedules, set up a work scheme and work zones.
In jwe it is a lot more about building placement, place and set up the shops, lure in different groups of visitors, again by enclosure placement, handling storms, caring about animal traits and behavior so they do not get sick or injured all the time or break out and demolish your park.* That is management, too. You have to handle a lot yourself. Call it micromanagent if you like. But its not the standard, it resembles more a rts game than an average park builder. And that is what makes this game unique.
And it obviously is not as simple as it is often said. The devs had to tweak storms and dino fights to child level, because the players had no idea how to manage them properly.
Maybe JPOG was similar IDK.
*the behavior itself might not be incredibly unique, but how you have to manage it. And what happens if you don't. In other zoo builders it is to get rid of the
It rarely breaks out and eats one of the visitors.
