Make sure you keep your amenities optimized. It'll tell you the amount you need for each tourist type, you want it as close to that as possible. Don't max out the bars, it'll just waste money.
Upgrade your paths to at least wide, otherwise your total park capacity will be bottlenecked.
Don't spam out too many dino types. They get expensive fast.
The park isn't open so you are haemorrhaging money from the get go. Be smart about how and where you build things. Stick with the cheapest options for fences etc.
Building takes time and money, cheaper fences build faster and obviously cost less, but if you keep your dinos happy and their needs met you can keep a Trex in a level 2 fenced enclosure. Don't mess around trying to build a beautiful park, just complete the tasks and make a functional park.
Once you have the first mission driven buildings down, pause the game and consider where you want to have other necessary buildings. Always pause when building anything in that time you're decided what and where you're losing money.
Place amenities near hotels and remember to leave space for if you decide to change them to medium or large ones later on.
Don't plop amenities or hotels unless told to as part of the missions (before the park opens) just leave room for them for later.
Also power. The generators require fuel and that costs a lot. So get a small power station and replace the genny as soon as is reasonable to do so. I relied on small power stations and the repeaters.
Overall I had 9 enclosures with 11 species in them and the park tour went through 3 enclosures.
As a general starting tip, I took the initial enclosure, placed the hammond creation centre on the top left corner. Then closed it off a little bit and split the rest of tje pen into 3 pieces. The biggest piece down the middle which served as the primary pen then expanded to either side as needed. I ran the tour through those three pens.
Closing off the creation centre isn't necessary, but I did it in case I accidentally hit release instead of air lift.
I stopped Chaos Theory mode because I was real frustrated with some stuff, and then I got back to the game by giving it another try, though in Challenge Mode... (because things needed to be unlocked for the Sandbox Mode...)
Challenge Mode:
This is where I learned more of the game than Main Story and Chaos combined together.
Surprisingly I was able to get through Jurassic Difficulty for 4/5 maps. Only 1 map remains in Challenges to be done.
So I wonder how "easier" it will be in Chaos mode. There are still frustrating things with this game, but now I can manage them a bit better - waiting for game updates...
But yeah, Power is everything. And the Backup Generators are only good to start research for Small Power Station and keep power during power failure when hit by a storm...
Then: visibility on your dinos.
Then: amenities...
Amenities saved my last Jurassic Challenge 'cause I had to demolish some stuff and reconfigure the park tour a bit... Check for the guest needs and build it. Choose whatever that suits specific guest type, and for that you just need to check what make more profit while suiting the major guest type.
Park Tours: have fences each sides of the tour whenever it gets close to carnivore enclosure, don't make it go in there "unprotected"... 'Cause the tour will be shut down many times due to dino attacks on the vehicles.
Feeders: Live Prey feeder is buggy. Add as many as the dino requires (1 live prey, 2, or 3, ...) and add an extra meat feeder in case the live prey feeders don't release goats... Otherwise the canivore will starve.
Feeders were overused but working in JWE1, now they are buggy.
Step 1. Appeal. Have some dinosaurs in an enclosure, with good visibility. I find Struthiomimus plus either Nodosaurus or Nasutoceratops to be a good combo.
Step 2. Guest comfort. Build a hotel, emergency shelter and restroom near the enclosure. You should now see guests starting to arrive at your park.
On maps which allow them, you’ll also need a monorail later on to keep your Transport rating up.
Step 3. Amenities. Once you’ve got a couple of hundred guests in your park, build a set of small amenities near the enclosure and configure them as best you can. One of the first things you should aim to research is Improved Anenities which gives you a lot more configuration options.
You should now have a steady income to start researching more dinosaurs and building out your park.
Some suggested next steps are building a second enclosure near your first, making sure you still have good shelter, restroom and hotel coverage, replacing your small amenities with medium ones, upgrading your paths to Wide Paths, and building out a power grid (but keep your backup generators for emergency power during storms.
Once you’ve got two or three paddocks set up with wide paths, good guest comfort and a set of medium amenities running, the game is basically won. Be patient, build out your park steadily and keep a few million in reserve for storms. There will be other challenges depending on which map you’re playing but all of those can be solved with money - and you’ve just solved the money problem.
Personally, I don’t usually rush to set up a power grid. One, fully utilised, non-upgraded small power station puts out the same power as two generators and costs the same to run. The difference is that power station costs are a per minute cost, like scientist wages, whereas you have a bit more control over refuelling costs for generators.
Power stations are more convenient once you have a steady income but until I get my first few enclosures set up, I prefer generators, especially on high overhead maps like Canada (Jurassic).
1: Try to hire a few scientists with the perk "Altruistic salary"
2: Raptors are a good source of income at first, then have a group of trikes and an ankylosaur together to save space and money.
3: Try to get rid of the emergency generators quickly. Those things are from the devil.
4: always check that your dinosaurs do not have the "Aggressive" trait or others that increase Dominance. You will have more happy dinosaurs and less dinosaurs in the hospital.
5: This is not a race against time... take your time in pause mode and think.
The rest is up to you.
Do not automatically assume Large = > when it comes to them either. Smalls work great for outer portions of the park while mediums and larges should be utilized for main thoroughfares to justify their increased overhead costs.
