YES! I just made it work :claptrap:

Gamepass saves are under:

%LOCALAPPDATA%\Packages\SabotageStudio.SeaofStars_p3aneehax6csy\SystemAppData\wgs\ then a big long number which is your user ID and in there another numbered folder

In there, finally, open the (most likely) biggest file with the notepad, check the parameters to verify its what you want (Character Level might be the easiest way to confirm its THAT save)
"saveId": "SOS_SaveSlot0", "slotIndex": 0, would indicate it is save slot 0 ( the first one in the menu), which Iam working with

If its the right file, copy everything and save it somewhere as
SOS_SaveSlot0.sos

Play the game on steam until you can make your first save.
(and obviously end the game after that)

With this you are creating a file on SaveSlot0. (for the first slot that is)

Now you simply replace the savegame in
C:\Users\YOURUSERID\AppData\LocalLow\Sabotage Studio\Sea of Stars
with the file you created.

Worked for me, hope other people can profit from this as well.

Cheers

Thank you, it works. My problem was I was working on the autosave and not on a manual save :) Thank you for all your explanations, I can now play it on my Steam Deck <3

i think no
Unless you know how to move windows documents for game saves from one folder to another, and if gamepass allows you to edit/view them in anyway. It works for some games, but not all of them. You would also need to make sure your save isn't tied to the game via cloud gaming.

I guess we will see when that day comes or the devs make it easy to transfer.

Assuming it works the other way round too (Steam to GP), Encountered a game breaking bug 30 hours in and want too see if the Gamepass version does the same.

I don't if there was an update but it doesn't work for me. When I replace the SOS_SaveSlot99.sos created by Steam by my Xbox Game Pass save, I only have "New game" when I start the game. Even if I try to edit "saveId": "SOS_SaveSlot0", "slotIndex": 0, TO => "saveId": "SOS_SaveSlot99", "slotIndex": 99,

Any ideas ?
Thank you

Good to know, maybe this could be pinned.

This is great. I've been absolutely loving the game on gamepass, and I want to have the game in my collection (and also play on Steamdeck) so this is good to know. Will likeley wait to see if it goes on sale in the next month or so and pull the trigger

Sorry, Steam didnt show me any new comments until now.

Had exactly the same problem and nearly gave up at this point.
Happy to help. ♡

Since I cant do that myself I made a guide, hoping that people would look there for help.

But didnt you start the thread here? You can easily "mark this comment as the answer/solution" and it should be pinned right under your initial post.

Thanks very much for this - worked perfectly first time. Looking forward to playing this game on my Deck without having to worry about streaming from Game Pass, like before.

Not working for me. When I open it and try to save i get an error about Unicode characters. Has anyone tried this lately to know if it works? If I save anyway (ignore the Unicode warning) then that save state is just not available when I go to load.
